Cruise control stopped working in my 2004 Hyundai Sonata

The cruise control was working fine, I had to cancel it due to traffic and when I tried to go back to cruise control later in the trip it would not work.

This works...the cruise is directly tied to the brake lights...when I replaced the brake and side light bulbs on my 2004 Santa Fe,,,the cruise started working with no other adjustments. It must complete a circuit or something.

A:2005 santafe: after searching internet besides the tail lite filaments as cause for malfunction of cruise control (cruise lite on but cannot set/or accelerate. I read a post by a Hyundai service tec that said every third santafe with that prob the switch on steering was faulty.
Two phillips screws removes the switch unit and unplug is easy from harness. There are two printed circuit boards that are perpendicular to each other and are electrically joined by four (4) soldered pins from one board to the other....a gentile wiggle of that joint revealed that the solder joints were broken on one or two of the four...... with a FINE solder tip you can re-solder those loose joints being very careful NOT to bridge one pin to another......repair 100%

I was having the same issue with my recently purchased 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe...Check your taillights/brake lights. Turns out, they are tied into the cruise control system and if one is out, the cruise control stops working. When I bought the vehicle, I knew the taillight was out, but did not know the cruise control was out. I still would not know they were tied together (and that I had unknowingly repaired the cruise control) if not for a post found here:

hope this helps :) and happy motoring!!!

206 SONATA CUSE CONTOL DOESNT WORK

You could possibly have a "brake lamp switch" faulty in your vehicle. There is a recall on these for certain model vehicles. Your vehicle may think your brakes are on, which isn't allowing the cruise control to activate.
Also the new Hyundai's are manufactured that if the Engine light is on, your cruise control won't work.
But I would try the Stop Lamp Switch first.

Hope this helps.

Speedometer and cruise controll on2003 sonata stopped working ,and check engine light on

No speedometer or cruise control and a check engine light all point to the VSS(vehicle speed sensor) on the transmission.Take it to a parts store that does free code scans(like Auto Zone) to verify the code(should be P0500-P0503).Or,take a chance and just change the sensor.

My 2011 Sonata cruise control stops working going down steep hills. The set light goes off. I had it set at 50mph but applied brakes when it increased to 70mph. Dealership says they can find nothing...

going down steep hills will all but over ride a cruise control, since the motor is trying to keep the vehicle slowed to what your desired speed that you set , unfortunately this doesn't always work,, as your speed increases, the motor can't keep the speed reduced, when you apply the brakes, the system shuts off, cruise controls were meant to be used pretty much on long flat surfaces with Low inclines ,,

2011 Hyundai Sonota Cruise Control: My new sonota's cruise control does not brake the vehicle when going down a hill. The car begins to increase its speed by over 20 km per hr and would exceed that amount...

I just bought a 2011 Sonata and am experiencing the same problem. Going downhill with cruise set at 55 mph; speed increased to 70 mph and was still accelerating (from the downhilll grade) when I finally pressed on the brake.
This is not normal. My Honda Accord never varied from the cruise setting by more than 3 or 4 mph ... going uphill or downhill.

Brake light still don't work after changing switch assy-stop lamp

Not enough information in your description of the problem. You start with "brake light still don't work after.... "??? after WHAT? Then you write .. 'and cruise control for a sonata 2000 2.4... etc." I'll take WILD GUESS... you have a brake lamp switch which is broken/malfunctioning. Please remember to RATE my response.

Cruise control stop working can someone tell me how to fix myself

If all the brake lights are out it is likely your stop lamp switch is bad, it controls lights and cruse, and also supplies input to ecm/tcm. The old ones would just pop apart, you can put them back together but to replace the switch it is only 20-30 bucks. Try that.
