Question about 2001 Dodge Durango

RE: AC does not blow cold when stopped at red light/stop sign, etc.

I have a 2001 Durango R/T and at one point I had to replace a part for the AC to make it blow on more than just the high setting. Although my AC now blows low, medium, and high, it stops blowing "COLD" air when sitting at a red light. As long as we are moving, it blows nice cold air at all levels - what could be causing this and how can I fix it myself. I'm a chick, so please speak in lamens terms ;) Even though I am a female, I am very capable of fixing **** no matter how difficult as long as I can understand. I never seem to amaze my husband who won't take his "***" out there and do it!!

Please, if possible, email the response to cruland@cfl.rr.com

Thanks to anyone who can help me!

Oh wow, I haven't even looked. I shall do so today, though, and get back to you. Thanks so very much for your response! I'll come back later today and let ya know what my rpm is at idle.

My son said the RPM is at 500. I will double check this tomorrow, but he "could" be right ;) Thanks again! What's it supposed to be at anyway? Is it 750?

My 01 doe sthe same but now it is looseing cold air in the front but back works fine.

Same problem as listed. AC works fine at speed, when you stop, it will blow warm air and depending on how long you sit and how hot it is outside, the air will go from warm to HOT.Begin moving again and air cools down.

Your question does not make sense, If you mean when you stop at stop signs etc it does not blow cold?
My answer in this case is that the electric fan's second speed for the aircon is not working. Get it checked

My ac/heater fan stops blowing then it blows sometimes? The air is still cold just not blowing out. when it does blow it is cold.

replace fan speed resistor block if this only happens on lower fan settings if it happens on high fan speed also, replace blower fan

2001 Dodge Caravan heater blows cold air when stopped

Have you checked the coolant level? What you describe is exactly what happens if the coolant level is low. When stopped at idle, hot coolant is not circulating through the heater core, so no heat. As the engine increases in rpm's when you pull away from the light, the water pump is spinning quicker, and some coolant is making it to the heater core. So check the level, and if it is low, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again. That of course indicates a leak somewhere. Get it fixed, as overheating the engine leads to costly repairs and worse case a new engine. Let me know how you make out with this.

The AC stopped blowing through my front vents but blows through the rear AC. The compressor is working fine but it seems like the front vent system is not ducting the AC through.

replace the blower motor resistor located on the passenger side were your toes point there are two 9mm screws you will need a universal joint socket to remove the back screw drop down the resistor and remove the red saftey clip and press together the two black pieces together and pull apart. If the problems happens again you will have to replace the resistor again and also replace the blower motor because the blower moter is woren and drawing to many amps. The blower has three 9mm screw and one wire harness. I purchased all my parts thru Rockauto .com
