Question about 2000 Hyundai Accent

1 Answer

Will not run in rain

I have been experiencing arcing between sparkplug wires and poor starting when very humid/raining. This has expanded into a stalling issue after a short drive. I replaced the coils and sparkplug wires. The car seems to start better, but after a short drive, it tends to stall and not want to start again. I let the car set for several hours and can start and drive for a short ways before it all happens again.

Engine very hard to start when its foggy and it rains

$5 it's bad spark plug wires. Some dark evening, pop open the hood and with a fine mist water squirt bottle and mist the spark plug wires - if you see any arcing they need to be replaced. It may also just be time for a tune-up. High humidity conditions tend to exacerbate problems with weak ignition.

Hi

Check all your connections under the hood, and check to see where the water is penetrating, check especially the battery connects. Usually the cause of a no start in rain/high humidity conditions is that the spark voltage is arcing to the engine metal rather that to the spark plug because of worn out spark plug wire insulation. You may be able to observe this when the engine is running at night in a dark location when it is wet outside by opening the hood and observing for arcs jumping out from the spark plug wires. The distributor cap could also be cracked which can also short the voltage to ground. It is suggested to replace the spark plug wires and look carefully at the distributor cap for any signs of a crack.

1987 Bronco II 2.9 Engine. Had it for 10 years with the same problem the whole time. Runs fine while the weather is warm and dry. Once the humidity or temp changes, or the rain starts, it loses power, bogs...

Have you changed the distributor cap? A crack in the cap will cause moisture to gather and cause spark issues. Give the cap a very thorough inspection and also your wires. You may have poorly insulated boots on the wires and the spark will ground out. I had this issue and I looked at the engine at night in the pitch black. I found a plug wire arcing to the distributor base because of a bad plug wire. The truck lost power when the weather was moist. I hope this helps.

Hi, the cap, and rotor may be collecting moisture, or the ignition coil shorts out with moisture. You can spray these with a water bottle, while it is running, to find the concern. It lies in one of these ares. Make sure you inspect the coil wire as well. Good luck...Coop

When it rains, car sputters and check eng. light comes on. replace 2 of coil packs and plugs but still having same issue.

Frequently high humidity or rainy weather can cause poor performance, usually because of a problem in the ignition system. Moisture and condensation may be forming iaround or in the coil packs. Also, the ignition (suppression) wires may be old and arcing from one cable to another, causing timing issues and misfire problems. That problem is aggravated by moisture and humidity. Look for old or loose plug wires loose plugs, etc.Look for ways to dsplace water in these ares. Sometimes there isn't anything to be done and it will cure itself after warmup.
Hope it helps

I have a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus. When it rains,

Check Battery, all battery connections, the ground from motor to frame and from battery to motor and or body. A poor ground connection can cause all kinds of problems. Also i had a car that would not start in high humidity that turnedout to be the starter. It was pulling too much juice from the battery at high humidity.

If the check engine light is on have it scanned at Auto Zone to pin point the problem. If the check engine came on then went off it stored the code in the computer you can still pull it up.

Engine cuts out during heavy rains. This started

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BUT WITH AN ASTRO VAN. THE PROBLEM WAS WATER WAS GETTING INTO THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR UNDERNEATH THE VAN, NEXT TO THE FUEL TANK.THIS WAS CAUSING A SHORT, NOT BAD ENOUGH TO BLOW THE FUSE, BUT ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE PUMP TO SHUT DOWN. BEST WAY TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM IS TO FIND THE CONNECTOR AND SPRAY IT WITH WATER WHILE THE VAN IS RUNNING. ALSO DO A WIGGLE TEST, THIS IS DONE BY GRABBING THE HARNESS TO THE PUMP AND MOVING IT AROUND, IF YOU HAVE A LOOSE CONNECTOR OR A BAD WIRE THE VAN SHOULD SHUT OFF.
