Parking brake warning light - 2007 Suzuki SX4

  • Anonymous Jan 29, 2009

I have a 2008 Suzuki SX4 that has a parking break light that fails to go off. The only time that it will go off is in a case where I have to stop suddenly, or aggressivly break. Any suggestions?

I ended up finding out that the light also comes on if the brake fluikd reservoir is low. I added more brake fluid and the light went off.

The switch is under the handle, if it is always on it is most likely bent away from the park handle.

From what you have written i take it your parking brake light is lit on dash if it is the contacts on the switch when your handle is down are not making contact to cut the power to the light sometimes if you wiggle and go up and down while holding the release button in you may be able to jar the switch off if it persist switch replacement

SOURCE: BRAKE light comes on occasionally - parking brake not engaged.

check your brake fluid it is more then likely low.You might need brakes as when they wear they take up brake fluid as the piston extends to make up for the worn pad material.

SOURCE: parking brake light

The parking brake and the low brake fluid use the same light. If it comes on during acceleration, your brake fluid level is low and you need to add some brake fluid or replace your pads. The brake fluid gets low as the pads wear as the whole system is hydraulic. Another possibility is a brake fluid leak. As you accelerate, the fluid gets pushed back causing the low brake fluid light to turn on.

SOURCE: parking brake

there is adjustment in the switch in the hand brake assembly - which will eliminate this .you will have to remove cover in console to adjust - should be self elplanatory once you can see it. Drop me a line if still required - get a book at library it is covered.

IP Brake light has come on in my 2004 Kia Sorento.. what does this mean?

Kia Sorento parking brake or brake fluid dash warning light - this light is illuminated when the park brake is applied, the warning light should go out when the parking brake is released. If the light does not go out it indicates that the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low and you need to pull over and top up at your first opportunity.

1-check parking brakes not applied
2-check brake fluid
3-if it is too low have the brakes checked they might be wearing out it doesn't mean you have a leak but when the brakes wear out the become thin causing the caliber piston to push out more lowering the oil level in the reservoir

Brake and battery light on idle rmps jump

If the ABS brake light is on all the time, it could mean you simply forgot to release the parking (emergency) brake. The brake warning light remains on when the brake is set as a reminder. If the brake warning light remains on when the parking brake is released, then something is amiss.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Loose park brake lever. Faulty switch. If the e-brake is on the left side floor, pull up on it and if light goes out it is loose e-brake lever. Other than that it may be faulty switch.

Brake warning light.

If the light is on all the time, it could mean you simply forgot to release the parking (emergency) brake. The brake warning light remains on when the brake is set as a reminder. If the brake warning light remains on when the parking brake is released, then something is amiss.
In some cases, the brake warning light may remain on if the switch on the parking brake pedal or lever is misadjusted. Nothing is wrong with the brakes and a simple adjustment should fix the problem.
If the brake warning light comes on when you apply the brakes, or is on continuously, it means that hydraulic pressure has been lost in one side of the brake system or that the fluid level in the master cylinder is dangerously low (due to a leak somewhere in the brake system). In either case, the fluid level in the master cylinder should be checked. Adding brake fluid to the master cylinder reservoir may temporarily solve the problem. But if there's a leak, the new fluid will soon be lost and the warning light will come back on.

Apply the parking brake with the vehicle parked, engine turned off and transmission in Park. Release the parking brake completely, then apply it again, and ensure that it is fully released. Turn the ignition on, check to see if the Parking brake warning light is on. If it is NOT on, apply the parking brake and check to see if the warning light comes on. If the light come ON wihen the Parking brake is applied,.....fully release the parking brake and check if the warning light goes OFF. If it does NOT go off, then an adjustment is needed at the parking brake switch.

No.
It might be in the switch for the parking brake. Try to release it a little more with your hands. It's either in the parking brake system or the regular brake system. Anything ABS has it's own warning light. Have it checked by a tech; it's a safety item, ok?
