What you need to do is buy a syphon hose that you push into fuel tank drain tank out they sell the crank stle based like a fishing rod as for your problem i would check the line from your gas tank to your emmission canister that it is not restricted if okay check fuel pump it could be heating internaly when fuel is lower than the pump housing when fuel is above pump keeps it alot cooler

My 1998 Buick park avenue burns gas faster than it usually does. What should I do.

If you use ethanol blended gasoline this is normal. ethanol blended fuel doesn't burn as well as regular unleaded

if you use unleaded non-blended fuel
A good thorough tune up should remedy this.

change spark plugs and wires
air filter
fuel filter
engine and transmission oil and filters should do the trick

it could a bfew things fuel filters , carbon build up, bad mass air flow sensor, spark plugs, any of the o2 sensors I would try the simpliest thing wich would be a throttle body cleaning you can go to wal-mart tire lube express and get there fuel system cleaning for $18 -$20 bucks the product they use is very good I have used the both brands they have offered and I like the new brand they use valvoline it has all the goods and improvements this help with cleaning carbon build up on your plugs,o2 sensors, throttle bodyand it may turn off your check engine light unless your vehicle requires to be reset then I would once a month run texaco or chevron or bp or shell with super unleaded i full tank will keep build up down if that is not it its a process of elimination it has to do with air and fuel

Re 2000 chevy express van (cutaway chassis with camper built on it) .. how often does the fuel filter really need replacing and is there really no way to do it besides dropping the gas tank and risk...

the fuel filter should be on the drivers side under the van in between the fuel tank and the motor. Usually about where the transmission is on a 2000. It is not in the fuel tank.

If you change the filter every 30-36 thousand miles you will get the most life out of you pump. Most of them fail around the 100,000 mile mark when the filters have never been changed. I have seen them go as long as 300,000 miles with regular filter changes.

$8 for a filter, $300 for a pump. you can buy a lot of filters for $300!

I assume the fuel issue is now sorted, you have good clean fuel now running through the system and contaminated fuel is not now causing the problem.

I also assume you have checked that the fuel pump is working properly.

If you have had some bad fuel or contaminants in the system I suggest you run the car on at least 2 full tanks of premium fuel before reverting to the usual cheaper regular unleaded. This will also help clean up the injectors.

If you have had problems with moisture in the fuel system do NOT ever use any fuel with an ethanol component. In any event I would never use any fuel containing ethanol in an older model such as yours. Ethanol is not only highly corrosive, but it also absorbs moisture(water) which will then settle in your fuel tank and cause problems once it builds up over a period of time. (This will occur
in any fuel tank). By the way Ethanol will slowly eat away at any plastic parts in the fuel system like plastic components used in some fuel pumps.

When the engine is missing under load as you have described (during hard acceleration or going up hills) it is often due to faulty spark plugs or the plug leads. More often than not one or more of the plug leads will be faulty.

If the spark plugs have not been changed in the past 24 months change them. Otherwise remove them and clean them and reset the gaps.

Renew the plug leads with good quality replacements and retest the vehicle.

yes theres some truth to that.
to be sure all you have to do is wait till the end of the tank of fuel and refill with a full fresh tank of super unleaded.then use nothing else.

hope this helps.

valve ping is common there are only just a couple of ways to handle it.you will need to use supper unleaded or ****** the timing just a very little bit.unlead is unlead no matter were you get it from.
run the tank to emply without running out of fuel and fill the tank with super.
if the ping is not gone after 5 miles then ****** the timing just a very little bit at a time.
hope this helps

Van won't start without starting fluid, 1997 Chevy Express

gm generally puts their fuel filters on the frame rail on the driver side about half way between the gas tank and the engine.....I'm not too familiar with vans (work on trucks the most) but the chassis designs are very similar. I would also do a check on the fuel pump(have someone put an ear to the fuel filler opening with the cap off and turn the key on......don't try to start just to on ........and listen for buzzing or whirring noise.......)if the pump isn't working you may be able to fix it temporarily by hitting the fuel tank with a hammer. (don't beat on it too hard you don't want to cause damage to it)If this works don't depend on it to work for long, however i had one that would quit almost daily and beating the tank worked for quite some time.
hope this helps!.........keep me posted with comments here and i would be glad to help you further!
