Question about 1991 Toyota Pickup

1985 toyota 4x4 pickup/22R engine

I was driving and the engine cut out and died, then as i coasted and let the clutch out it fired and ran again. on a different trip it cut out and then fired up again 2 more times and then died for good. if this would be a timing belt problem how do i get into that to check.i put a new coil and egnition pack and cap and rotor but still no fire out to plugs.how else can i run this problem down if it is not the belt?
thanks

I have a problem with my 2.4. I just replaced the water pump and the timing belt. I put everything back together and it turned over about 5-6 times. It was trying to run then it would cut off. and then it wouldn't turnover so i manual turned over and i didn't get any fire. My timing marks are good.?????

How do I replace a starter on a 1985 Toyota PU 4x4? 22R engine Thanks -- Bob R

In order, disconnect negative battery cable, jack up truck and secure it from tipping, access starter from underneath or remove tire and get at it from the wheel well on passenger side, unplug clip and disconnect positive battery cable from starter, remove two bolts that hold it in place. Reverse to install new.

Need to change engines

If you have a 22r carbed then all 22r carbed engines from 1981-1995 will interchange. You may need to use sensor out of your old engine however. The 20r,22r,22re,22ret all have the same mounts and tranny bolt patterns. how ever there are lot of differences. you can swap from a 22r to a 22re but you must also swap the entire vehical wiring harness to do it right. if you have a 3.0L i would keep the same engine. some people have swap to the tacoma 3.6L but that is a expensive swap not exsactly bolt on so to say. If you have a 22re then stay with the 1986-1987 22re because the newer 22re use different computers, electronics ,sensors and more.. Same story with the 22ret. I hoped this helped.

You might check the PCV valve and grommet,I'm assuming it's EFI,if the valve isn't sealed tight it will cause the motor die at lower RPM's

1985 Toyota pickup 22r non cali emissions ( Drives then dies no fuel in carb)

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the rubber fuel lines being old and cracked. The hoses would warm up and fuel would squirt out of the cracks. I had to replace three fuel line hoses and it has been running great ever since. Good luck.

Check your plugs and distributer timing. Maybe try running some seafoam through your injectors.
