I have a 2000 Elantra there is a P0708 code showing when tested. Please advise.

Well, I dont think much about the competence of your 'goodyear' people. Fat lot of experts they were !!! I hope they didn't charge you.

Lots of people get this code. Looks like this item needs to be changed, repaired or at least tested.

One answer I found is

'Code stands for Intake Manifold Runner Control stuck Open (Bank 1). Make sure it is not stuck and none of the linkage is binding. Try manually opening and closing it.'

Windstar's are known to have Defective Transmissions. If you pull the code,(if memory serves me right).. P0708.

code scanners at autozone doesent really tell the problem, they are more of a guess than anything. best way to find the right one is take it to the shop and have it put on the computer to find the true problem and autozone should be able to tell you what sensors those codes stand for....hope this helps...

p0708 is transmission range sensor curcuit high output, p0171 is system to lean ( bank 1 ), p0442 is EVAP emission control leak ( small ).

This could be as simple as a bad transmission temperature sensor or a Neutral Safety Switch. Have the Neutral Safety Switch checked out first because the Transmission Temp. Sensor is fairly expensive.

Also have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra. Interesting same thing has gone wrong with mine within two months of yours. Get the crankshaft position sensor replaced. Maybe these just wear out in time. The car will start one day and the next day it will not. It was a puzzle until the check engine light came on this last time. I actually cheered because it meant the computer would register a problem. It cost $220 for parts and labor at the dealership. It's worth it or it will continue to leave you stranded at various times without warning. Since replaced I have noticed my car engine seems to be running better that I didn't notice was off before. Car has been fine so far.

transmission range sensor intermittent,check the prnd indicator on the shift shaft of the transmission.

these code could have come up due to a mismatch in the test equipment used to recall them try using another test rig to retrieve the codes you may find they are not there anymore, i have had this when using the incorrect lead on a system i have checked my computer and there are no codes like that for the car you state
