2003 2.5L nissan altima hesitation/check engine light is on

While driving and pushing the gas pedal, it is as if the car is not getting the gas then will catch it and go. Also the other day I had it sitting and idleling and when I put in gear it died. And the check engine soon light is on. Any idea on what is causing the hesitation?

I think so... I have a 2003 Nissan Altima and it first started sluggish, would seem to be running fine, then slow down and "catch". It has gotten progressively worse, rough (very rough) idling, stalling sometimes 2-3 times A DAY... and often when I'm idling. I would LOVE to take it to a shop but I'm broke with barely enough cash to keep gas in the tank. If anyone can suggest something I can do to help myself or on the cheap, it would be greatly appreciated.

i am having the exact same problems. I press the gas and the rpm goes up but no acceleration is produced. feels as if something is stuck in there.

Have your catalytic converter changed immediately before your engine goes bad... hopefully its not too late. if you don't take care of this now you will find yourself shopping for a used engine.

You might want to take the car in to the dealer there was a lot of recalls on that car i know i have one and i just took it in they did a recall on the computer and the catyltic converter the cat shoots pieces of the cat called catalyss into the pistons and blows the motor it only cost a 125 dollars for the dealer to check it and if it is a recall you get that money back!!!

The check engine soon light is your first thing to check. That little light means "I' m sick, please help me". you can go from there once you know what code it is. Sounds like you need to go to your local auto technician.

This kind of cars the gas pedal is electronic, that means there is no metal cable to the carb. the first thing is check for any disconnected wire harness at the pedal or on the engine compartment at the throttle body everything looks fine the pedal could be defective

My nissan 2003 altima 2.5s cannot take gas

Could be low fuel pressure or a faulty throttle position sensor.
Have the fuel pressure checked and if the check engine light is on have the computer scanned for trouble codes.

Dirty airfilter, car will not start

If you took out the filter and it's dirty you can't see light thru it replace it. As far as not starting unless the air filter is now a solid block of dirt it should start, if the engine is fuel injected you must not touch the gas pedal while starting the engine or you will flood it.If it's flooded assuming you replaced the filter. Push the gas pedal to the floor hold it there while starting, after the engine starts remove your foot from the pedal to avoid engine overreving. This should fix the problem. Air filters should be changed every 12 months if you drive in dusty condtitions sooner the better

When i push the gas peddal it doesn't rev up.

is the check engine light on?? you most likely have a problem with the throttle assembly. It is electronic, not cable driven, so that's why you can rev it. Nissan has had some problems with those. Normaly code P0507 ICS system comes up. But I don't know if your check engine light is on, but it should be, if throttle failed. There is also a switch (electronic) by the gas pedal, which sends all the signals to ECM to be processed and then to the throttle assembly. But those switches (by gas pedal) have been bulletproof. So I would be looking a the throttle asembly again. Good luck.
