    Thanks Digital Jedi,

but on the UK models the t stat is on the bottom hose under the alternator and you also have to remove the drive belt. I've bought the haynes manual and that is the description , the photos are not too clear though. Anyway, problem solved. Thanks again

It is near where the top radiator hose connects to the engine, ask the parts people to show you the parts diagram when you buy the part, why are you replacing it, I am a Ford factory tech and have never seen a T-stat fail in the Focus.

check to see if you knocked the wire off of the sensor. if not you might have trapped air in system and will have to open bleader and fill with water to top

Bad knock sensor symptoms

If your original engine didn't have a knock sensor, but the new one does, don't worry about it. You can safely remove it or just ignore it.

ON A 2003 ZETEC SE IS THE THERMOSTAT BEHIND ALTERNATER IF SO IS IT EASY TO REMOVE ALTERNATER

I just replaced the T-stat on my 2003 Focus ZX3 last weekend. I'm a novice; it was easy. You shouldn't have to remove anything except the T-stat housing. It's located on the right side of the block, across from the battery. You need a 10 mm wrench to remove the three bolts holding the housing onto the block. Removing the four hoses was the most difficult part. When they're off, the housing unit slides under and out. The T-stat and O-ring cost $20.

Thermostat on focus zetec se 1.6 year 2001

Is the thermostat the correct temperature rating. It should have a temperature listed on the thermostat, and does it fit the cavitity the old one came out of.
If the answer is yes then its a matter of the correct gasket. Call the dealer and ask them. Remember sometime the manufacturer change certain parts
they are not required to tell anyone they had. You might be getting an upgrade (as long as it fits the cavity for the thermostat.)
If the rating on the new thermostat is different from the old one and it doesn't fit the cavity then bring it back and show the dearler what came out of the vehicle . The same with the gasket.

i think it is 105,000 miles. They go much longer. It is a free wheeling engine in the U S. No damage will occur.

Thermostat replacement

IF YOU LOOK UNDER THE CAR, NEAR THE ALTERNATOR YOU WILL SEE A PLASTIC HOUSING WITH 2 PIPES LEADING ONTO IT. THE THERMOSTAT SITS IN THAT. JUST BE CAREFUL YOU DONT SNAP THE BOLTS WHEN REMOVING THE HOUSING.THE HOUSING ITSELF CAN BECOME WARPED OR CRACKED AND LEAK FLUID, A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FOCUS. THE HOUSING COSTS AROUND £15 AND A THERMOSTAT ABOUT £6. GOOD LUCK.
