I just bought this 2001 Sable and I need help in figuring out what's wrong with it as my warranty only covers engine, transmission and drive shift. I just put in a new battery, alternator and mega fuse as this is what the mechanic thought was the problem but after all of this it... Starts up, After started for about 5mins the ABS, airbag, brake, gas, ect... lights come on and the car starts to jump like it wants to cut off. It doesn't cut off and it doesn't show how how fast I'm going but I have to keep giving it gas while I'm at a stop in order for it not too. Once I drive to my destination about 4 miles and cut it off it will not start back up and will only do a ticking noise when I try to turn it over but wait.... Once I let it sit (typically overnight) It will start back up and do the same thing all over again! Please HELP me if you give me some input as to what I need to fix now?

Try this one. Without engine info, most of the regular sites were not so useful, but this one gives many different belts. You'll need to compare your belt number to the ones on the page so you can get the right one, but these are all for 2001 Sables.
Your going to have to get your ECM in the car scaned. The transmission is controled by the ECM and if there is any problem with your engine or transmission it goes in to a limp mode.
It's just a way for the car not to make it self worst if there is a problem and you can still drive it to a shop for repairs. It could be as simple as lose wire or bad sensor, and there are to may things that can go wrong.
I just don't want to see you go though un need cost to repair something that may just be simple as a misfire in your engine, and not a transmission problem at all.
Good luck and hope this helps, PS most place's like Auto Zone or Parts Source will scane free of charge to buy the right part you really need to repair your car.
Mercury had a recall on 3.0 duratech motors in 2000 and 2001. If you get a fuel smell at startup then you might have a bad lower intake gasket, it could cause a miss if seal is cracked. Article No. 01-4-3 you can get it on AllData.
Also, check the PC rubber L piece that runs from the PVC valve to under the throttle control - it could be busted.
Make sure ignition wires are not cracked. If you haven't tuned it up in over 30-40K consider doing that.
Has anyone figured this problem out? Our 2002 Sable just started this as well...instrument cluster lights out, turn/hazard lights on when the headlight switch is turned on. This has the auto on/off switch with fog lights. This is happening in the auto and manual on mode. Any solutions would be appreciated.<br />
The Odyssey has notorious bad transmissions from 2000-2003. You will not get anything on a trade, the trans can be fixed for about $2k. If everything else on the van still works and you like it, figure you bought it again for $2k. I changen my wife's Odyssey trans at 175K miles for $2k and she is happy so therefore I am happy too :-)
