I had the same problem recently, checked all bulbs and fuses etc. Same ok replaced switch unit in cabin( got from scrapyard for 50 euros here in Ireland) and problem solved.10 minutes fix. Price of a new switch exhorbitant so try the scrapper first. Good luck.

A couple of things you might want to check the bulbs on your vehicle if they are all good then consider the fuses which control your lights if they are in good working order then the only other problem it could be is a bad earth

I recently puchased blueish headlight bulbs for my 2006 Volvo S80. The original bulbs were 55W for both the low and high beams. i replaced the high beams with 100w blueish bulbs and they work fine. When...

i think im right in saying the low beam bulbs are twin filament(low and high beam in one)and the main/high beam are single filament(spotlights).

How to adjust headlights on 2001 volvo V40

The adjustment screws/nuts should be located either on the top of the headlamp assembly, behind the headlamp assembly, or near the frame rail by the radiator support.

You will have vertical adjustment screws for each independent beam (separate highs and separate lows, but will be same screw if highs and lows are the same bulb). You may also have additional horizontal adjustment screws as well

Park your car on a level ground 30 feet from a wall and measure the height from the ground to the bulb and mark on a wall (do this for highs beams and low beams if the bulbs are separate, if highs and lows are the same bulb, only do it for the lows)

For Low Beams: If the headlights read VOR, then aim the brightest part or cutoff part just below the mark on the wall. If it says VOL or nothing, aim them 2 inches below the mark on the wall.

For High Beams (if separate from low beams): Aim the headlight directly at the line you marked on the wall.

Volvo v40

real major problems, take the car to the nearest dealer and leave it there. tell them everything the car is doing and when it does it as much as you can. you have some real issues that probably only a volvo dealer will know about. you can also ask them about any recalls that have been made on your car and hope this is one of them....then it's free to repair.
