Question about 1997 BMW 328

Power Steering Hi Exps', I personally have a problem with my BMW 328i E36 1995, I have taken it to 3 different people for checking including Bavarian Motors Midrand. My steering was making a loud screeching noise when I was turning the steering and it sometimes sounded like springs pulling and relaxing, and sometimes the steering would be very tight and sound as if it would lock, and then be quiet again, continuously, and the last time I drove the vehicle it started making a strange loud deep noise from the engine, then I started panicking. The first opinion at Bavarian Motors was that I should have the ATF Fluid replaced, I had one of the Bav Techs help me with this and the vehicle was quiet for a few seconds and the steering was great, then either the pump started leaking or one of the pipes, it was unconfirmed as there was a lot of ATF fluid everywhere when we were changing it - The fluid was also BLACK in color. The second opinion was that one of the pipes were burst - feeding pipes - can these break without having an accident? Third opinion was Pump replacement I am looking at about R6 059.00 excl vat and installation for this and would like it to be fixed properly and correctly what would you suggest and how do I test?

also my fan is stuck and thus the fan turns with the engine speed, could this be the cause of not having a heater in the cold wet winter mornings?

The stuck fan will not let the car heat up as fast as should.if fluid is black it is overheating becoming burnt.if you over filled pump it will spray out also need to clean and find leak sounds like you have a bad pump

Where to find the steering fluid cap on a 1996 bmw 328i

With the hood open and the engine running, have someone turn the wheel so you can spot the power steering gear box. There will be two lines from that box leading up to the power steering pump. That pump is driven by the serpentine belt. Atop that pump there will be the filler cap you are looking for.

Hope that helps.

Power steering

bad electrical signal to the pump. pumps thinks its going fast. the valve that controls the fluid flow to make steeering stiffer at higher speeds is confused.

use electrical contact cleaner and d-electric grease to fix contact problems.
pop the hood and cleans as many connections as possible, let dry and apply a small amount of di-electric grease to those connections, then re-connect the plugs. even do the dme connections to the main wiring harness.

this will solve many electrical contact problems seen in older cars.
