It could be something a simple as the cruise control switch(s)... or it could be the Cruise Control Module located in the engine compartment. There's also a 'clock spring' in the circuit between the steering wheel & the cruise module. Note: there are two sets of contacts in the brake lamp switch, one set for the brake lights, the other for cruise control. Properly diagnose the 'CAUSE' of the problem. Otherwise you could end up buying parts you don't need. Proper diagnosis is a 'hands-on' activity, which is nearly impossible to achieve here under the FixYa website

Lower R/L brake lights and cruise control stop working at the same time

Well before you listen to all these people and do all kinds of crazy random replacements I'd suggest the very simple very easy solution of checking the fuse. If the fuse is bad it's a 3 dollar replacement. If that doesn't work I'd replace all the bulbs, more expensive but cheaper than the control switch. If that is bad it's also a fairly easy fix but a little more pricey.

How to fix cruise control?

It seems this car has a problem with its cruise control if any of the brake lights are out or even if a bulb is flickering the cruise control will not engage. I would start my diagnosis there and also the cruise control fuse of course. hope this helps

CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEMS CAN BE CAUSED BY FUSE OR FAULTY BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH OR BLOWED FUSE TO BRAKE SWITCH.YOUR CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH COULD BE FAULTY.BEST TO TAKE CAR TO DEALERSHIP LET THEM HOOK CAR. TO DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT.BECAUSE CRUISE CONTROL IS ELECTRONIC AND PCM CONTROL.THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM USES INPUTS FROM VSS SENSOR .SO IT WOULD BE HARD TO FIX AT HOME YOU NEED EQUIPMENT TO FIX AND TROUBLE SHOOT.

Did the 'Check Engine' Light come ON? Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on. You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. 01 Hyundai Elantra - Cruise Control Doesn't Work w/ Headlights On

I had same problem (cruise control/dashboard lights) for the past month with my 2000 Elantra. Replace the tail lights bulbs - my problem was caused by a problem with the double filament within the bulb. Essententially, there was a short when I turned on the lights or hit the brakes.

Brake lights won't go off

learned to trouble shoot this in school, it might be that your lights and or switch are backwards, that was usually the case we discovered to be the culprit, and be sure you have the right bulbs and not some random generic compatible with these model cars, those bulbs will not be compatible with the current going thru them, if this does not help, you might want to try to reinstall the original components to back track your work, unfortunetlly electronics on cars is very time consuming as we learned in class.....hope this works or helps you...shia

2004 Hyundai Elantra.......Cruise control will not engage

make sure the cruise control cable to the throttle isn't too loose, if it is ok, check your brake switch. if it is sending the signal the brake is on it will not allow cruise to work and will do same thing as described about the set light.
