First while running engine light came on. Turned off. Now will crank but will not start.

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

From start to end troubleshooting these problems I suggest you to check the help link below and follow its procedure: -----

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

Check engine light comes on and off, these are indication that there is some error code stored in your vehicles ECM. The engine module computer needs to be scanned. These will give the code and as per the error code the further problem can be detected and confirmed. The engine light indicator blinks or remains steady on dash when engine computer noticed any problem with any engine electrically operated components.

Engine won't start and if starter is replaced does it have any other problems

Engine wont start. If car battery voltage is low then engine wont start. The fully charged battery will show 12 volt. But if battery is showing 12 volt. Then check the battery to starter connection. If that is also checked ok then check voltage for starter itself. The starter is also a 12 volt part. But if the starter is faulty then it has to be replaced. If you start the car but if its not starting then its starter fault. But if the car makes cranking noise but its not getting turn over then there are many other possibilities. But if the car is not even cranking then its faulty starter.Get this checked and confirmed before replacing any part. This should help.Thanks. Car will not start. replaced the battery and will not turn over

But if the car makes cranking noise but its not getting turn over then there are many other possibilities.A car that cranks over but doesn't start, in many cases will be due to a bad fuel pump, a broken timing belt, an inoperative cam sensor or crank sensor. Also these problems are related to faulty spark plug. Check the spark at spark plugs when you start the car. Do you notice any spark. Actually you should see. If in case there is no spark then it's a spark plug problem. Also the coil pack gives power to spark plug. So check the voltage at coil pack. It will show 12 volt. If there is no voltage noticed at coil pack then its faulty coil pack that has to be replaced. If all the possible options checked out ok then check the car starter. The starter gets power from battery to start the car. If the starter is faulty then it will not let the car to start. Also check and confirm that there is fuel in the car. If its very low fuel then in some cases this causes the problem. Also check and confirm that fuel pump is functioning properly and the fuel filter is not clogged. One of the easiest ways to check for a fuel pump related problem is to spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while trying to start the car. If the car starts momentarily, then there's a good chance the fuel pump is not working or the car is out of gas. You can also listen for the fuel pump's humming sound when the key is first turned on. Also if a inoperative fuel pump is suspected, a good technician will always check to verify there is power and ground being supplied to the pump, to eliminate the possibility of a bad relay or electrical issue. Fuel pressure can be checked with a pressure gauge and if there is pressure, pulse can be checked at the fuel injectors in several ways including the most common, with the use of noid lights. If the injectors don't have pulse the engine won't start. ---------- This troubleshooting tips will help you to solve the problem. Thanks. Helpmech.

My car wants to turn over and almost starts to run and then dies.

Check the fuel ,if the fuel is not empty then get the fuel pressure checked. If the fuel pressure is low then its faulty fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. When fuel pressure is low,the engine does not get require fuel at its required time period so the car turns over but due to low fuel pressure it stops. But if the fuel pressure is checked ok then other possibility is low voltage in battery.Get the battery checked. It is a 12 volt battery. If battery checked out ok then get the battery to starter connection checked. If the starter to battery connection is weak then car will just crank but will not get properly started due to faulty starter. ------- Thanks.helpmech.

Engine shut off while driving, no warning, no lights. engine cranks over but won't restart.

There are some possibilities which you will have to check in this case:--

1) First of all check the power and voltage to the battery. With meter it will show exact 12 volt if the battery is charged. If the voltage is less get the battery charged at local auto repair shop. If the battery is internally drained and not getting charged then its time to replace the battery.

2) When you crank the car do you see spark coming at the spark plug? If no then its time to check the spark plugs and coil pack. If the spark plugs are not worn out and looks new then its time to check coil pack. The spark plug gets power to spark from coil pack.

3) The other thing to check in this case is the starter solenoid of the car. If the battery is charged and you start the car then it gives power to the starter to start the car. But if starter is faulty or not connected properly then car will not start.

4) The other thing to check in this case is fuel in the car. If there is fuel in the car then check the blockages in the fuel pump if the fuel pump looks proper then check the fuel filter above the fuel pump.

5) If all the above possibilities mentioned above checked out OK/perfect then it's a electrical issue and the wiring's in the car needs to be checked. The car gets power from the battery to get started. so the wires from battery needs to be checked one by one.

Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Car will not start, put a replacement starter on that had been re-built on Monday, on Wednesday the car did the same thing. The lights, electric windows, radio etc will paly but car will not tun over. Can...

Do you hear a fairly loud 'click' when you try to start? That should be the solenoid for the starter that is trying to work. You need a test light or voltmeter to check what is happening to the starter itself. When the solenoid clicks, it is pulling a very heavy electrical contact closed which applies 12 volt power to the starter motor. Check the large terminal on the solenoid that has the + battery cable attached--the test light should light before and during any attempt to start (the meter should indicate 12 volts). If the light goes out during the start attempt, clean the battery terminals and check the condition of both cables. If still no start, test the starter side terminal of the solenoid--the light should come on only when start is attempted. If it does, the starter is bad. If you get no light at all, the solenoid is bad. If the battery negative cable is connected to the car body, check for a broken or loose cable that runs from the car body over to the engine. Hope this helps!

Car wont start but the lights, radio and everything battery operated comes on but it just makes a click noise when trying to start engine

If you can hear a click (quite loud) from the engine compartment, but the starter won't crank, this also could be caused by discharged battery. Battery problems - Discharged or dead battery is one of the possible reasons for a car not to start. Very common is the situation when we forget to turn the lights off overnight (the dome light, for example), which causes the battery to drain. In this case when attempting to start a car, all you will probably hear will be a clicking noise - there won't be enough power to turn the starter. Here is the simple way to check if the battery is discharged: Turn the ignition on. With the engine off, turn the windshield wipers on. If they move way too slow, much slower than usual, the battery is probably discharged. Also look at the dashboard lights - if they appear very dim, the battery is probably discharged.
If the battery is relatively new, it can be recharged. All you need to do is to boost your car and let the engine run for a while to charge the battery.

However if your battery is more than three-four years old, you will probably need to buy a new one. Sometimes, an old battery may even die with no apparent reason, even if the day before it was OK.

If the battery is OK, the starter solenoid, starter cables or the starter motor itself could be a problem.

Check it and tell us news.

Willnot start pulled starter bench tested ok

Check all cables to the starter and the ground or negative cable from the battery to the engine or frame. They get old and break down between the insulation and you wont get enough current to start the car
