Question about 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Clicking in Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Clicking started a couple of days ago. At first it sounded like the clicking you hear when oil is low. Had oil change and clicking continued. The more I rev the engine the faster the clicking. Then I took to it to a local mechanic and they had no idea and could only narrow the noise down to the engine. They suggested I take it to Mitsubishi. Help?! I have been having the same issue intermittently for the past 2 years.  It seems to act up more in the summer when it is hot and the air conditioning is running.  2 years ago I took it to a Mitsubishi dealership because it started happening right after I had gotten an oil change from that same dealership.  After a few days, they told me that they would have to take apart the engine but it was going to cost me.  So I had them take it apart and they determined that the oil had become thick like sludge and was clogging the engine.  They determined that this was because it had not had oil changes at the recommended intervals.  I had bought the car used at 30,000 miles and I did not have a record of the oil changes, so it is possible that it was the case.  They told me I need to get a new engine.  Well, after they put the engine back together they performed an engine flush (about 1 1/2 weeks altogether for dianosis).  I took the car back and the problem seemed to have stopped.  Needless to say, I have not replaced the engine and 2 years later it seems to be fine except that it will act up with this same problem occasionally.  I get the oil changed every 3 months or 3,000 miles and I keep record of all the changes, but I no longer go to a Mitsubishi dealership.  They charged me $300 bucks for an engine flush.  I have gotten 2 other engine flushes since the original incident, one from my mechanic and one from my oil change place (the prices are much cheaper).  When the issue starts happening and I get the engine flush, the issue will go away for a while.  What I've been told by my mechanic and by my oil change place, is that over time oil can build up and clog the engine.  Getting an engine flush seems to help clean it out, but I it seems to be building up rather quickly in my Montero Sport. Anyway, I would like to know if there are any other possibly solutions besides getting the engine flushed every few months or replacing the engine.  I wanted to look into synthetic oil.  Does any have any ideas?

My 2000 Montero Sport makes the same clicking sound, but the car runs fine. It has been going on for two+ years. Oil changes or oil level are irrelevant. Weather condition is irrelevant. Maybe it's just a feature after 5 years.

mine does this also. If i shut it off right away and restart it, it stops for the rest of the day. Like everyone else, weather, oil change (i have been over due by 500 miles at most) or driving conditions, no better, no worse. Still it cant be good.

I think I am having a similar problem on a 2002 montero sport, one mechanic told me he thought it might be the cam and then called me back and said the dealer recommends replacing the engine. I have about69,550 miles on the truck. I brought it for a 2nd opinion and was told it might be the lifters, he recommended an oil change with 5w 30 and something called marvoulous or miricale somethinge. I will let u know how it turns out

Over the past couple of weeks I would go to start my 1999 chevy lumina and it would not start at first but then after a couple of trys it would, two days ago the volt light came on but it was still turning...

The alternator is not charging the battery. The clicking noise was the starter, it does that when the battery is to low to crank it. Also the dash does exactly how you described it when the power gets to low. Replace the alternator, Have it checked first to be sure

I have a 2002 Saab 9-3. A couple of days ago I started hearing a clicking sound coming from the engine area (don't know if its actually the engine, just in that area). At first, only made sound when...

If the 'clicking' sound changes with engine speed you need to check your oil, and pay attention to your temperature guage-it might be a lifter making noise and an oil change would possibly help. If it is a steady clicking noise, it might be a loud fuel injector, possible but not likely.

I have a s320 auto and the gear lever is difficult to move from park to drive this has started a couple of days ago any advice

first get in to the car close the doors and shutters switch off radio and a/c then witch on ignition, when you press the brake can you hear clicking sound in shift liver, release brake and do press it again and listen, if you can clearly hear click sound, it's mean brake light switch is OK. could be faulty safety release lock in shift liver control, if can't hear clicking sound in shift liver first check the brake light switch.
