Question about 2003 Honda Odyssey

Ignition lock and switch

I had to change the ignition key cylinder and switch as the previous one jammed. The replacement was off a 2002 model (I believe). The key seems to work OK and the starter cranks the motor but I cannot get the engine to start, not even a peep. Everything worked fine before the key replacment.
Is there a compatibility problem? The only thing that is now strange (IIRC) is in the display warning lights, I now see a green key and also the red brake light warning.
Thanks,
John

This solution was very helpful. I found out that the green key light meant immobilisation. Ajkill hit the solution. FYI, Honda can reprogram the keys with a hand held unit for a 1 hour labour charge (~ $100).

G'day

It may be that the key fob is chipped and changing the assembly is not allowing the engine immobiliser to disengage. The ECU will be waiting for the original key's code. You may have to go to a dealership to get them top reset the ECU and accept the new key /switch.

It is possible that when the key jammed it actually broke one of the actuator arms in the steering column so when the key is turned it is not moving the arm hence not moving the switch for starting purposes. located the switch under the steering column and remove it. try to start the car manually using it. if it works the actuator arm inside the column is broken and needs to be replaced.

Or a drop or two of oil or even wd 40 in that area may free up the arm.... not to much tho.

10. Disconnect the Passlock(TM) electrical connector.
11. Disconnect the electrical connectors

12. Use the following procedure if the ignition switch lock cylinder is seized or won't rotate:

1. Protect the immediate work area with suitable material such as clean shop towels or a clean fender cover.
2. Locate the surface for the release button (2) for the ignition switch lock cylinder on the plastic ignition switch housing. Center punch a location (1) on the rib approximately 3/8 inch reward, toward the key entry end, from the cylinder release button.
3. Carefully drill a pilot hole through the plastic housing with a 1/8-inch drill bit.
4. Using a 9/32-inch drill bit, carefully drill a larger hole at the pilot location, and slightly into the surface of the ignition switch lock cylinder, to break the release button retaining spring.
5. Remove portions of the broken spring from the hole using a small suitable tool.
6. Grasp the ignition switch lock cylinder and remove the cylinder from the switch housing.
7. Remove any plastic flash from the drilling operation, and using compressed air blow out the ignition switch assembly.
8. Follow Service Data procedures when cylinder coding is required. Refer to Key and Lock Cylinder Coding.

Installation Procedure

1. If the lock cylinder would not rotate or was seized, perform the following procedure:

1. Install the new ignition switch lock cylinder as required by rotating both the cylinder and the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. Push the ignition switch lock cylinder into the ignition switch housing until fully seated.
