Question about 1989 GMC C1500

1 Answer

No gas Fuel pump works, priming line. Injectors not squirting any gas while cranking or when engines running while pouring gas manually down the throttle body. What are the chances of both injectors not working at the same time? What should I diagnos or change to correct the issue?

Why won't it start after running out of gas?

Hi Joe:
Don't know what "it" is, but the fuel pump needs to cycle enough to prime, the carb or injectors need to be filled with fuel.
If it is a carb, remove the air filter and look into the carb...... pump the throttle linkage...... the accelerator pump should squirt gas into the throat of the venturi. If there is no gas, a squirt of gas to prime won't hurt.

How to prime carburetor on 1988 Toyota tercel 1bbl

Normally, you wouldn't need to do this to get the engine started. If you have a mechanical fuel pump ion the engine, just cranking the engine over should cause the pump to push gas into the carburetor. And if an electric pump, it should come on with the key in on.

But to prime, pour a small amount of gas down the throat of the carb, and crank. As the engine fires and runs, the pump should begin working and pushing fuel into the carb.

I turn ignition to ready position. The fuel pump engages and prime's the line. I then start the engine. Engine starts and runs for a max of 15 seconds. As soon as the engine cuts out the fuel pump...

The crank sensor is a good candidate. Pretty common failure on jeeps.
To clarify, the fuel pump is on all time during engine cranking, and during engine running. When the engine cuts off, the pump will also be stopped. But, you will not lose pressure in the fuel lines and fuel rail immediately. The check valve in the pump is supposed to hold fuel pressure in the system for a good time-about 20 minutes. The pressure should bleed off very slowly.

Your fuel pump and fuel system is probably good, but if you really lose prime (or pressure) that quickly, then there is a problem. Best way to check is with a fuel pressure gauge after the engine cuts out. Or, if you have the test port schraeder valve on the fuel rail (looks like a tire valve), you can use a screwdriver to press the center of the valve. If gas squirts out, you do have fuel pressure, prime is not lost, fuel system is good, and you can assume problem is in the ignition circuit, not a fuel problem. Probably the crank position sensor.
Good luck, Casey.

1985 grand Marquis acts like not getting fuel to start but if I pour gas directly into throttle body starts right up and runs what could be problem

Runs on the gas you pour in, or keeps running until you turn the key off ???
If the fuel pump relay fails, you would have to crank the engine until you get oil pressure to provide power to the fuel pump.
Do the injectors spray when you are cranking it ? Have you checked fuel pressure when the key is turned to start ?

Not getting gas in the carb. changed pump. poured a littlr gas in the carb good compression but dies when gas runs out

get a oil can the thumb operated type and squirt some oil down the petrol pipe and make sure pipe is upwards so the oil runs into the pump then leave for a while to wet the valves in the pump then crank engine to make sure petrol comes up or just refit the pipe and pour some petrol down the carb and watch it go

Procedure to prime vw 1.9 l diesel fuel pump

I think the 1.9 are the same pump as the 1.6. Take the "out" line off-this should be a 17mm banjo fitting on the top of the pump, get a very small funnel and a empty AND DRY water bottle, fill it with diesel, and pour into the hole until it starts running out, them reinstall the banjo fitting. After that, I usually crack all the fuel lines at the injectors using the 17mm wrench, crank the engine until you get fuel at the injectors, retighten lines. If there are no other problems with car, it should fire up.

Car wont start

THere is no gas in the fuel rail at the time gas is running out. WHen you fill the tank, it needs to pump for a while so fuel can fill up the rail then the Fuel distributor so it can build up pressure for the injectors to work properly. It need to continue cranking at least 2 minutes. However you don't want to run out the battery, so can just turn on the key to hear the sound of the fuel pump stops, then turn key off turn key on again. Repeat this for 6 times then start the engine. The reason for it is that every time the key is on it turns on the fuel pump to prime the line then turns pump off after a specific time, then it turns on again only when key is at ignition position. By doing this you help to pump gas into the fuel rail instead of the starter continue cranking draining down battery fast. Cheers.

My buick sat for a year and wont start. it is fuel injected and not getting gas

You may have to drain the gas from the gas tank and replace the fuel filter. Gas that sit too long will turn in to varnish due to oxidation and will gum up the fuel injectors. Try draining the the gas tank and replacing it with new gas and replacing the fuel filter, once you have that done, *** a can of Sea Foam to your gas tank to clean out the fuel line and fuel injectors. There will be lots of smoke, but that is normal. As to how much smoke, just go on you tube and look up sea foam and you'll see how much so your not in a panic. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running gain.

Wont start , no fuel getting to fuel pump

Are you sure there is gas in the tank? I "fixed" more than one car that came in for a fuel pump replacement that ran out of gas. If you have gas, check the fuel pump fuse, fuel pump relay, check for power to the fuel pump. check wiring, kinked lines, clogged fuel filter. Sometimes new FI cars are hard to prime if there is air in the system. Take off the air filter and have someone squirt fuel down the throttle body while you crank the engine. If it fires, you know it's not getting fuel, but when it does fire , it may prime the pump enough to run.
