2000 Passat GLX 48K miles Check Engine (Emissions) & STOP! oil pressure warning on sharp turns
2 separate issues
The first (emissions warning check engine light) has happened on & off for years.
The second just started happening recently.
(1) I've gotten check engine errors p0441 & p1176 occasionally for awhile now. These errors appeared early on and I brought it into the dealer (several times) and they replaced damn near everything regarding emissions.
I purchased an scanner which can clear the codes for about $40 and as long as the error codes are the above I clear them and mark down when they appeared.
Does anyone have a permanent solution to this?
(2) When taking higer speed turns (like on an on ramp or off ramp) a "STOP! oil pressure wanring" appears. It disappears as soon as I pull over without me turning the car off.

The oil pressure warning light is coming on because you have a low oil level. I had a car that did the same thing. When you turn sharply the oil moves to one side of the pan and no longer triggers the sensor. Check your dipstick and make sure that your oil is topped off. Continue to check this weekly to make sure you are not losing oil quickly, as this is quite bad.
As for the emissions codes, you need to find out what the descriptions for those two codes are before a solution can be offered.

Need to replace the Oxygen sensor on the exhaust. This is a maintenance issue, every modern car will eventually need this to be done. Not very difficult or technical, so not necessary to be ripped off by dealer, find a cheaper mechanic.
hi mate, my 55 plate passat did the same before major problems happened. first turbo went then the oil pressure light came on and the car went into limp mode. before its too late for you and a costly bill can you do the following. check if your car has a recall for the injector problems which vw are replacing under warenty. second thing the guy who repaired my turbo told me that these cares have a major fault which caused the turbo to go. the fault is the oil pump failure you must adress this issue as you can get a lot of info on the discussion forms. my car started with the same problem as you have described the pd engines have a design fault with the oil pump and shaft. this is common causing your turbo to go then the car will start showing oil pressure low please stop engine. educate your self via the forms and act quickly befor you end up with massive bills. i hope this has helped. trust me vw know about this design fault.you need to change your chain driven oil pump to the new gear driven system which vw have modified. all vag cars have the same problems be it audi skoda vw . my car had the same problem as you have said .started off with emissions then turbo failed thats when i started to investigate this problem . the pd engines was designed by some rookie at vw.
"Check engine light" EMISSIONS WORKSHOP! Do you want to shut it off???
After reading all of the negative comments and how much money Passat owners have spent due to this manufacturer's problem, I am going to save the day and save you $$$ by showing you how to "reset" the diagnostic computer which makes the "emissions workshop-check engine light come on! (This is the same thing the VW dealer will charge you hundreds of dollars to do.) To turn off the "Check Engine" (Emissions Workshop) light, simply follow these 5 basic steps:
1. Pop open the hood.
2. Insert the key in the ignition and turn without starting the engine until all of the dash indicators light and warning tones sound.
3. With the key still in the ignition, use a 10mm wrench or socket to loosen and completely disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the battery. Wait about 60 seconds before reconnecting.
4. Re-connect and tighten the negative (-) cable to the battery and close the hood.
5. Start the engine. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT HAS GONE OUT!
If the light stays on, then there really is a problem. If it has turned off, be glad, but don't be surprised to see it come on again in a few weeks. If it comes on again, simply follow steps 1-5. Remember... This quick repair is for those who just can't stand looking at this light or afford to visit VW every time this light comes on. If you feel the need to service the vehicle, service the vehicle. I hope this has made your "NIGHTMARE" a little easier!!!
I would check the oil pressure sensor and the oil pump itself. You can take the sensor out and use a mechanical gauge to check the oil pressure. If the oil pressure is within specs, you need a new sensor, if not, you need a new pump.
I have a 2003 Passat GLX V6 and i havent been experiencing this issue, however from my experience with VW, the early 2000 models of the passat that have a 1.8T 4 cylinder engine have a major issue with what has been deemed "oil sludge" you have to be careful with this engine oil wise and make sure to get the oil changed every 3,500 - 4,500 miles and make sure you get the full synthetic oils for it and the proper filters :-) the turbo that is on this model heats up the oil to extreme temperatures and if not serviced regularly you will have problems.... i hope this helps! i would have someone check it again for this issue... hopefully you get to it before it becomes costly!
