Learn how to reset your Check Engine Light (CEL) without using an OBD II 2 scanner / reader tool. ... Year ...
The dealer should not simply reset the check engine light without informing you as to the reason it is coming on. The hadheld diagnostic tool should be plugged in to your cars unit and the code deciphered - it could be a simple matter such as the gas pressure valve system in the fuel tank or something more sinister or expensive if you leave it - I am astonished that they simply reset it - go to another dealer and ask them or your local garage as the diagnostic tool is not dealer specific - anyone can buy them.
Your dealer or mechanic can reset the check engine light but without fixing the problem, it will come right back. Usually the car runs in a lower power system when the light is on. You may or may not notice that. I would suggest you bring it to a mechanic or dealer for maintenance.
I would try an auto-part store. Normally, they would hook up a engine light code reader to give you the trouble code for free. With the code reader, you can clear the troubles and the engine light should turn off.
since the check engine light can come on for well over 100 different faults I would say the dealer is guessing, ask if he replaces the pump on this guess will he fix the real cause if the car still has a problem. I would suggest u go to Kragen or Autozone parts and have them run a free trouble code test for the cause of the check enginelight. With that code in hand post it back here for us to look at and try to diagnose.
