Question about 1998 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

Baffled My 1998 Ford Taurus stops at stop signs and when idling. I thought possibly bad gas, but I dont think that is the problem. When driving there is no problem, but when it comes to a complete stop it putters a little and then cuts off. Restarts automaticly

Sounds like your throttle body is dirty. Also could be you idle air control valve. May need to have throttle body and injectors cleaned to fix problem.

Clean fuel injectors with STP treatment (for fuel injectors) or HEET (for vehicles not the body rub to remove any possible water buildup (bad gas), clean or replace PCV valve; check / change spark plugs.

So I was driving my Ford Taurus 2002 down the street and out of no where the acceleration just stop. It idles fine, there was no indication the transmission was going out no noise no nothing, it work

Yes, usually do give some sign, but not always. Still it could be an electrical problem, rather than a mechanical faillure, since the shifts are electronically controlled. You probably need a shop or transmission shop to diagnose it.

2005 ford taurus can spin front wheels by hand when its in park

Sounds like maybe a halfshaft (axle) problem. Maybe has a bad cv joint. If that's not it then possibly the spur gear in the ****** broke.

My 1998 ford taurus overheats when idling but cools down when you drive what should I do?

Check your your radiator cooling fan should come on at about 220 deg. and off at about 210 deg. at idle with a/c off, if it stats to over heat turn a/c on, fan should come on right away, if it dont check voltage at fan motor, if you do have voltage, you have a bad radiator fan motor, more then likely the reason it don't over heat while driving is air is being push through radiator where it cool's the coolant before it goes back into the engine, at stop's no air running through and never cool's coolant .

Car stalls at stop signs

will it re-start right back up?
next time try to keep your foot on the gas pedal to see if it stay running ( be careful when you do this, if you give too much gas the car will over come the brake and cause accident )
if it stay running then you need to replace an idle air control valve

Replace PCV valve 2001 taurus duratec engline rough idling when engine is cold. Engine will stop when vehicle is stopped at an intrersection. After driving for 30 plus minutes the car idles fine. Air leak?...

I dont think it is the PCV but its a good idea to replace the PCV at least once a year either way, and its very cheap, usually $2-$5 at autozone.
