Go to a dealer with your title and photo ID, and they can look up the key code based on the VIN number of the car, and cut you a key that will work. HOWEVER, Audi keys are different than most (as you've seen I'm sure), and are laser-cut. They can cost upwards of $200 each. That's still cheaper than repairing the damage that is likely from trying to break into the car though. It may be your only bet.

i recently gotf a key from audi dealer for 63.00, but to get the neew tranmitter etc, it was an additional 78.99. if your key is locked in the the car all you will need is a key to open the door. that will cost approx \6300. then use your key you lockedd in the car to start etc.

2002 Avalanche, key will not turn but steering wheel is not locked. Unable to change the ignition switch because the key will not rotate. Any ideas?

Sounds like your switch is stuck far enough to keep the wheel unlocked but not far enough to lock your key in the cylinder. If it were me I would call a lock smith that can make keys from you lock cylinder as I would think your key may be worn down as keys do from time to time. Remember that yoy may have a chip in your key so after you finally get your new lock cylinder in get the truck to the dealer or lock smith, if they can program keys.

Rock the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn key. I'm sure you may have already tried this, but maybe the steering lock is putting pressure on the key lock, preventing its turning.
If no help, IDK, do you have a chip in the key? Or does the car have a theft alarm locking it? If you have a regular key and it won't work, do you have a spare? You might want a new key made, and see if it works.
Good luck.

Inserted key will go to auxilliary but not start, steering wheel not locked

This is likely a bad ignition switch or tumbler. Did you try jiggling the key vigorously to get it to turn on? It sounds silly, but I sometimes have to do this for my 97 tahoe because the key is so worn.

Hi,
Got that same situation long time ago. The simpliest and cheapest that i did is break the quarter at the rear door so that I could reach the door lock and open the doors!
I have ***** the other parts, to open the door, by hiring locksmith that cost me a lot than buying a replacement glass, put a wire in the door that will break the rubber weather strip and paint. Force the door lock to turn, that much expensive to replace.

Its up you, when time and money is required to solve such situation!
Hope that helps you!
Thanks for using Fixya
P.S. If you know somebody in your neigborhood that cracks open cars, is much better!

The key will turn far enough to start the accessories but will not move far enough to turn the engine on.

try turning steering wheel a bit, or move shifter up past park. Otherwise ignition may have a broken or stuck pin and will need to be replaced.

Ignigtion locked up. Acts like it wrong key, but only 1 I have and has worked up until now. Steering wheel and gear shift locked also

Hi TK,

This happens every once in a while when there is stress on the steering lock plate. Which ever direction the wheels are pointed, turn the steering a little more in the same direction while at the same time turning the key.

Taking the pressure off releases the ignition enough to turn the key.

Best regards
Mike
