SOURCE: torque converter solenoid stuck off DTC

There is a solenoid switch that locks up your torque converter to get a 1:1 input for your transmission. This solenoid (or less likely its circuit) does not operate. You probably don't feel the difference in driveability but this definitely affects fuel mileage of the car... The solenoid for your particular application is available for about 60$ Canadian at NAPA auto parts here in Canada. Not too sure about USD$ and labour costs...

SOURCE: jeep codes location of unit

Got me a complete manual for 199 jeep factory model and found location of each individual unit in question. Manual gives u possible solution to each code and repair and or replace. As a mechanic myself testing, trouble shooting and repair was not that difficult. Shift solenoid was very difficult to get to. Located under the head lamp passenger side.

SOURCE: torque converter shudders when it attempts to lock

The test you have done will not determine which one is the cause of the problem. I have found that the solenoid is faulty 99% of the time. However more information on the vehicle could be helpful. How many miles on the vehicle? Has the transmission fluid ever been changed in the past? The solenoid may have become dirty with sediment or debris. Flushing the transmission can help with this problem. Normally if the solenoid fails the computer will set a service engine light code and store it in the computer. The code that is set may help to isolate the problem.

My transmission stops shifting when the fuse blows ..what causes it to blow

A shorted wiring harness or shorted shift solenoid(s) or torque converter clutch windings or torque converter lock up solenoid. Also the wiring harness to the transmission may have been damaged and is shorting out. You need an expert to look into this.

Location of tcc fuse

Usually te TCC is tied in with the circuit with the other solenoids..So if it was the fuse you would lose all the other solenoids as well..You would know that because the transmission would not be able to drive..If you have a torque converter code,,then its most likely you have to replace the torque converter...

1999 dodge ram take of WOT fine threw all gears and can feel the lock up ingage fine. at 55 mph crusing and heavy accel it goes like its in neutral.

The situation you describe could be (i) low fluid in the torque converter, (ii) a faulty signal to or from the torque clutch solenoids, (iii) a crack in the torque lock up solenoid pipe leading to fluid pressure loss, or (iv) the torque clutch solenoid modulator is faulty. 1) Is there plenty of fluid on dip stick? 2) have the (transmission diagnostic) codes read at Autozone 3) Check that the transmission electrical connector plug socket pins are clean and free of corrosion 4) Check solenoids - Drain fluid, remove transmission pan and remove filter. Now looking at the back edge of the valve control assembly from left to right (as viewed in direction of travel) is the force motor/pressure control solenoid, two identical square shaped solenoids corresponding to '2 to 3 shift' and '1 to 2 shift' and, last on the right, the forward clutch accumulator. On the front edge of the valve assembly, again from left to right, we have torque converter clutch solenoid (A) and immediately above it, pointing straight up, the torque converter lock up solenoid (B) and finally on the left the 'down shift 3 to 2' solenoid. Unplug the torque converter clutch solenoid (A) and using a small screw driver remove the solenoid's retaining clip from the close by slot. Remove the solenoid. Also disconnect and then remove the two securing bolts holding the torque converter lock up solenoid (B) assembly and drop that out. Thoroughly clean both solenoids. Check up the end of the pipe of (B) with the aid of torch and look for any signs of cracks. Check both solenoids across the connector pins for electrical resistance: (B) should have 20 to 25 ohms and (A) should be 10 to 15 ohms. If there is either no or infinite resistance then this indicates either a short or open circuit respectively and the solenoid should be replaced. Note that (B) is an 'on/off' type solenoid and can be opened and closed by applying a 12volt source across the pins; (A) is a 'pulse width modulated' solenoid and so cannot be easily tested for full operation in isolation.

Repair info on OSD Fault Code: PO743

The code is for a TCC (Torque Convertor Clutch) solenoid problem.

Chances are pretty good the problem is the wiring where it goes into the transmission or the TCC solenoid itself which is in the valve body

There was a bulliten released from Ford about three years ago about this code being set after trans overhauls. In Ford's program stratagies, the P07xx codes are for computer detected failures due to mechanical responses. The P17xx code series are computer identified electrical failures. This code you are getting gets set when the computer does not see the what it would expect from Torque Converter lock-up. The most common problem for this (and is even stated in the bulliten I mentioned) has to do with a seal on the input shaft of the trans. The seal either gets damaged when the torque converter is installed or it is accidentally left out during the rebuild. There is not much that you personally can do, but at least you can understand how to best procede.

But
you will most likely end up removing that cover to inspect the harness that goes to all the solenoids and then to inspect the valve body and the TCC solenoid itself. If you have a multimeter then you could ohm through the harness and even the solenoid. I have found that most of the time this code was produced because of the solenoid itself. But it could be the circuits to it also. There is a big connector an top of the trans that goes into the trans and the internal harness inspect that connector for any corrosion or damaged pins or wires.

TCC solenoid circuit failure during on-board diagnostic.

TCC solenoid circuit fails to provide voltage drop across solenoid. Circuit open or shorted or PCM drive failure during on-board diagnostic.

Failed ON - engine runs rough/vehicle shudder, engine stalls in DRIVE (2nd, 3rd or 4th) at low idle speeds. (Short circuit).
Failed OFF - torque converter clutch never engages (Open circuit) (MIL on).
