Question about 1993 Mercury Topaz
I have the exact same car and man did we have a hell of a time figuring this one out! I wonder if you have the same cause as I did. My fiance replaced the fuel filter, the fuel pump, the battery, the spark plugs, the ignition switch and still the car would randomly leave me stranded or simply not start. Turns out that there is a wire that goes to the back of the car to the fuel pump. Signs of this being the problem were when the car would die the hazards would not be on or would be dim and get dimmer. Slamming the truck helped and they would get bright again and at that time I could start the car and get home. Another sign was the gas gauge, even though it worked wasn't always accurate.
Another thing it could be, since you were vague, is another issue I am currently having, is that the key isn't turning so I figure now I have to either replace the ignition or something to do with the gear shifter and pins in the steering column.
Anyway I am learning that this car, even though lasts a long time, has a lot of problems when it is 15+ years old.
