I have a 2000 bravada, I can smell antifreeze and windshield fogs up. I assumed heater core has a leak. I am looking to have a shop replace heater core tomorrow. Does anyone know how much it costs. I also have a problem starting my car it takes some turning over before it starts. Could it have anything to do with a relay? A relay under passenger side dash started to knock about same time. Any help is appreciated

This is the most painful situation when you are paying for a service and the technician cannot figure out what the problem is. My Bravada blows heat only for the first 15 minutes of driving. When it warms up, it blows very little heat. I can hear the blower going but there is little air coming out. Replaced blower, resistor, switch.
Lack of competence is amazing, I wonder if the quality of the cars made in US has anything to do with the situation that the big three found themselves in.

I have no heat from my 2000 Bravada's electronic climate control. Blower works fine. No smell of anti-freeze, no leaking from heater core, no fogged-up windows. I've heard it could be a fuse, thermostat, needs more coolant, heater core and heater control valve ( air blend door actuator). Has anyone had a similar problem and fixed it? From what I've read I think it's the heater control valve. Can that be fixed easily by a non-mechanic?

2000 oldsmobile bravada heater control valve location

If you are looking for some sort of water valve that diverts water to/from the heater core, forget it. They don't exist anymore. They went away shortly after the widely adapted use of air conditioning in today's modern cars. Now, hot coolant is routed thru the heater core at all times, but is controlled by a cable-operated, or vacuum operated "blend door" located inside the heater box. If you are not getting heat to the vehicle, there are a few possible problems:

1. Bad thermostat - thus low coolant temperature and lack of heat.
2. Clogged heater core - no water flow thru core, thus no heat.
3. Broken control head - loss of cable or vacuum actuation of blend door.
4. Broken heater box/vacuum tank - no actuation of blend door.

Of the items listed above, based on the age of the vehicle and the likelihood of occurrence, I would investigate them in the order of 2, 4, 1, 3.

How do I get heat in my 2000 oldsmobile bravada

do you have coolant flow through heater core? Does the blower motor work? If that checks out, maybe a temp door under the dash has a problem?

Instruction on how to replace heater core on 2000 olds bravada

If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
f74-01.gif The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core
  • Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
  • Remove the heater coolant hoses.
  • Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
  • Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
  • Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
  • To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

2000 olds bravada the heat dose not get hot or cold stay the same i switch it to hot or cold dose not matter what could it be

Hello the bravada and the s10 blazer are bad about the heater cores air locking or either stopping up. Disconnect the heater hoses at the firewall and run a water hose to the inlet then try the outlet until the water is clear of debris then reconnect and refill with coolant remember 50/50 coolant water. Pure coolant will freeze and so will pure water. Thank you
