Disconnect the negative cable from your battery so the car doesn't start. Now, since you cannot find the timing mark on the crank, simply remove the #1 sparkplug and insert a long screwdriver into that first cylinder. Don't scratch the head. Turn the crank pulley until the screwdriver moves to TDC. If you see the screwdriver start to go down, you've passed TDC. After you've got the 1st cylinder to TDC, get a permanent marker or paint and ruler. Mark your crank pulley and your oil pan for the next time you want to set your crankshaft pulley at TDC.

How can i time a 76 sbc 305 if i cant get the car started and don't have timing light just need to get it started

Find cylinder one
Crank the engine with the plugs out,
feel for the compression stroke
mark the timinig mark on the crank.
Set your distributer with the cap off.
Or you can pull the valve cover and watch the valves for the timming mark.
that should get you close enough to get it started then adjust.

I am putting a new timing belt on a 1990 colt vista with a 2.0 liter engine.I need to know the timing mark positions.

On cam gear there's a punch mark, line that mark at 9 oclock there's a timing mark on cylinder head, crank gear, in back of crank gear is a plate with a (v) cut line gear at 11 oclock there's a timing mark on front case, gear to right of crank gear has a (v) cut on it, line it at about 11 oclock at timing mark on front case, adj tensioner and your done.Good Luck.

What is the timing marks for a 2000 kia sportage?

the timing marks are as follows... if you are not able to see the picture the intake cam gear will line up with the mating mark on the rear cover .... the "I" needs to be straight up... the exhaust cam the E needs to be straight up. the crankshaft mark is a nothch in the rear of the crank gear which needs to line up with a pointer on the front of the aluminum oil pump housing. the keyway on the crank needs to be vertical. the marks on the rear cover are dimples in the cover. this is an interferance engine DO NOT ROTATE CRANK OR CAMS WITH BELT OFF. IF YOU HAVE BROKEN THE TIMING BELT DAMAGE TO ENGINE HAS ALREADY OCCURED AND YOU WILL NEED A VALVE JOB!!!! there is no exception on this engine. if you have tried to crank it over and the belt is broken the head is no good!

Point tha chain timer altima 94

if you mean the timing chain then on your crank gear and your cam gear there will be a mark on each sometimes they look like a dot the dots need to look like this for perfect timing ( . . ) this will be there closest position. Your crank turns once all the way around (360 degree) and your cam gear will do two complete revolutions to the one of the crank gear. so when you set your marks as above when you turn the crank one half turn the mark on the crank gear will be at the bottom and at the same time your cam gear will have made one complete revolution, so when you turn the crank another half turn your cam would have turned again a complete revolution and the two marks should be at their closet point again.
