I think I have the same problem, it's not that it is failing, but that it is showing "Incomplete test"

i am having the same problem, but on a 98 sc1, replaced the o2 sensor on the manifold and disconnected the battery and then went through the drive phase and it still will not reset even after 250 miles!!! HELP!!

I have the same problem on a 99 SL2. I've been driving it for 4 weeks now and three of the sensors won't reset: The Evaporative System, o2 Sensor, and EGR system. The catalyst originally wasn't setting, but after three weeks of driving that one finally reset. Is there any particular type of driving I have to do to get the other three to reset?

After much research on the internet, a family member found that if your coolant sensor is bad, it can prevent the other sensors from resetting. And since the coolant sensor isn't typically tested in the emissions test, it won't show up as needing to be replaced. I suppose it also won't trip your check engine light, since mine wasn't on. We pulled the sensor out and saw that one of the prongs was terribly corroded. Replaced the sensor and viola! Drove around for half a day and the car passed emissions the next!

This is what I would do. I have a 98 saturn sc2 and have been threw this ringer.

1. replace the O2 sensor
2. replace plugs with the bosch platinum 2 spark not 4, and the wires.
3. take the trotle body off - relax 4 bolts. the wost thing is you mite have to buy a new gasket if your not carefull - clean it out really good. with a lint free towel and carb cleaner.
4. buy a product called seafoam.
Go on UTube and look up seafoam its very easey to do. And typically works.
5. also replace your air filter.

6. you may need to replace the thotle body sensor
7. you may also need to replace your tempature control sensor.

Change your oil when all this is done. Take the car out on a interstate or major highway. do at least 60 miles per hour for atleast 30 minutes. Then drive directly to the inspection place. This will also increase your gas milage and performance. I do not take any responsability for anything here. I am not there to diagnose your cars but I can say this is what I would do.

If you have any questions let me know. everything I have told you to do here is very easy and can be done in no time at all. Get a friend to help

Saturn codesP0000

Your vehicle is equipped with an OBD II computer AND a link to connect OBD II computer to a Smog Check Analyzer or Data Scan Tool (available
at most auto part stores). There are two types of codes, bad codes and good codes. The good codes are the "Readiness Flags". These Readiness Flags
indicate that certain emissions systems which the OBD II computer has been monitoring have PASSED the test, indicating that those systems are
working properly. Then there are the bad codes. The bad codes are actual "Trouble Code". These codes indicate that the OBD II computer
has detected a problem with in the emissions system. The Trouble Code will specifically indicate the component and problem which was found.
Newer vehicle's have very complex codes in the thousands.
"Readiness Flags" do not cause the "Check Engine" light to illuminate, but may cause a vehicle to fail the smog test.
In order to set all the proper "Readiness Flags" the OBDII system must complete at least one drive cycle (in some cases
two or three). A drive cycle is a sequence of internal tests which the OBDII computer runs while your vehicle is being driven. This insures
all emissions systems are functioning properly. Only then will your vehicle pass the smog inspection. A drive cycle usually requires one
week of driving.

Pass smog test

change your oil and oil filter. Add a bottle of octane boost to the fuel tank then top off with fuel. Drive vehicle for about twenty minutes then have emissions tested. Unless you have a bad catalytic converter, you should pass emissions.

Won't pass smog when it should...

Just because the car seems to run well, does not mean the emissions are within spec. For example, you could be running a little rich and the car will start and run great, but the exhaust is not within code.
What you can do is take it to a "smog shop", that is a repair shop with the proper equipment to diagnose the problem. If the testing is simply the reading of the on board computer codes, then most any place can read those, but you need an experinced mech to know what to do about it. May need an exhaust gas analyzer to physically sample and analyse the gasses. For the actual test, as long as the computer says all is fine, usually, you're good to go.
If the computer looses power any saved run data will be lost and must be re-accumulated to pass the smog test. A few hours to a day is usually enough run time to accumulate enough data.

Engine Check light

Take it to autozone or another place like it and have them read the codes and tell us what they are.

My emissions label is ripped off and I can't see what equipment I need to pass smog.

Your emissions tag isnt going to tell you what you need to pass a emissions test. It;s only going to show you vacuum line connections.

What does my 77 gmc K20 need to pass CA smog

As far as I know. Anything 1994 and under don't have to go through emissions anymore, just safety. But, like countrysi248 said, it might depend on what state you live in. Best wishes to ya.

If it was originally intended for Texas, it's probably been made as a 49-state-compliant vehicle (CA has stricter emissions). To pass in CA, you may need some new parts for the truck in order to get it to pass. Or you may find that the best course of action is to sell the truck and buy a CA-emissions car.

The CA DMV may well have information available on how to get non-CA-compliant cars to pass the CA emissions testing.
