Question about 1996 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

Rattly noise I recently started having problems with my 1996 ford taurus. Sometimes when I step on the gas it will make a rattly noise and it has less power. When I take my foot off the gas, it stops. Sometimes when I start my car there will be some blue smoke out the tail pipe. sometimes it does this when I'm driving and I get the rattly sound but not always. I did have an oil leak by the oil pan fixed a few weeks ago. This started just before the oil leak was fixed, but hasnt gone away. I've taken it back but it hasnt done it when its been driven

The blue smoke is an idicator of burning oil. this could be either bad valve seals or bad oil rings on the piston. with the loss of power and the ratteling noise nit would seem that you have a valve issue in the heads. now either the valves are not seating properly or or the lobes on the cam itself is worn and what you are hearing is the rocker arms slaping. Considering the age of the vehicle you have the option of either having the engine rebulit(that's if the blue smoke is from bad rings) or if you just have the top end done, there will be a substantial cost. or you can get rid of it. please rate this

If I have a 1996 ford taurus GL my battery when the car is not started test out putting 12.05 volts which the mechanic at less Schwab said is okay. But when I turn the key the volts drop to 11.55 sometimes...

It's normal to drop when the key is turned because your electronics are running like your fuel pump, radio, etc. When you start the car it should jump between 13 and 14 volts when running.

At about 1200 to 1800 revs there is a rattely vibration noise sounds like front pass side

You did not say if this noise is when the car is rolling or stopped. Sometimes the heat shields will drop when a weld fails. If you have no welder you can use a large stainless plumbing clamp or band and tighten the shield against the catalytic converter or muffler where the sheild is loose. I have had driveway stones kicked up into the shields and this will cause a terrible noise. Fish out the stones and it will go back to normal.

Also check the 2 body mounts where the 1/2 frame bolts onto the body. Earlier Taurus models had rusting washers which allowed the bushings to slip out of the frame mounts.

1996 Ford Taurus will not start. The car has power and gas.

spark coils are located on top center of the engine under hood. wiggle connections and see if there are any loose. If you can not find the coils, follow the spark plug wires back from the spark plug it will lead to the coil. good luck

1996 Ford Taurus just developed a power steering pump noise.

Make sure it is full of power steering fluid. Fords use generic power steering fluid you can buy at any parts store.Or you can try a power steering additive like Lucus and it may help as a last resort to replacing the pump .

Why woulod oil come out of my exaust pipe? 1996 ford taurus

Either your valve seals are bad or you piston rings are wore out. I would say it is the valve seals though.

1990 Ford Taurus GL windshield wipers park in the wrong position

I have a 1996 Ford Taurus with a similar malfunction the intermittent wiper function is erratic, but the wipers park properly. I'm the original owner & this malfunction was in the car from the factory. I have a regular Ford Dealership manual & came to the conclusion that the Generic Electronic Module located behind the fuse panel is bad (computer glitch in programming) ! Ford Dealers want over $ 300.00 for a brand new module, I haven't checked with my local used auto parts recycler yet, but I know it will be less than the dealer price !
