Question about 2002 Jeep Liberty

1 Answer

Electrical problems I have had my jeep for over a year, and it seems to act up every few weeks or so. The first problem was it wouldn't start. I would have to boost it and things would be fine for a few weeks, and then it happened all over again. My battery is fine, alternator is working perfect...etc. Then one day on a long trip, my speedometer went. After about 30 minutes it just started working fine again. As before, no one seems to know why. A few months ago, in the dead of winter, the jeep wouldn't start again, even with a boost. Someone suggested I hit the gas peddle, which actually worked. I blamed it on the fuel line freezing, but it happened again last week and it was a hot autumn day. The day before my last instance, when I had to push the gas peddle, all of my dash went out. I checked the fuses and all was fine there. The next day, when she wouldn't start, the dash was working again. Has anyone else experienced this? Its so infrequent that no one seems to know what is going on.

I have, when I first bought my 02 Liberty. It ended up being a faulty ECU. ECU is the computer brain that controls the whole car. I had it replace and it never happened again.

My first thought would be: If you repaired an emissions hose, take the car back to Auto Zone (or another parts supplier) and let them tell you what code comes up now. You eliminated one problem, now you have to find another.
I wouldn't do a fuel pump without more information.

u need a good car electrician to check the faulty electrical circuit that goes on and off at times or have ur car diagnosed electronically using an electronic scan tool to check if ur having a faulty signal from ur relays or your on board computer/ it seems to me the real culprit is ur ignition key cylinder that when not properly set wont give electrical connection to power up the starter....its definitely an electrical issue....

check the wires to the fuel pump if they have rubbed against something and the insulation wore through hitting bumps or rain could cause it to short and kick the relay and resets again and will start
