2007 Kia Spectra Stalling

My MOM bought a 2007 Kia Spectra and over the last few months it has been stalling after she comes to a complete stop. The dealership tech. says she must of used bad gasoline. After contacting her gas station she was assured there records would prove this as not the case. Now it appears we are in a battle with KIA to have the warranty cover the repairs. Does anyone else have this issue?

The latest is KIA states they did a h20 test and found h20 in the gas after they removed it from the tank. Can the test(s) that are run at the gas stations be enough evidence to discredit this finding?

Car stalls for the first 40-50 miles after tank is filled after that it is OK until next tank. Any ideas? Will try a fuel treatment to see if that will help

I have the same problem when i fill the car up, it will stall and die when it slows down. My original dealer said i was overfilling the tank and it had something to do with the canister in the gas tank. I stopped over filling, but have once again had the same problem. Going to the dealer next week and will discuss it again with them. I know KIA warranty is getting harder and harder for them to admit it is a warranty problem. I hope she bought a good extended warranty.

We had the same problem and they kept telling us it was us over filling tank. They changed out some type of filter they claimed was full of gas due to the over filling of gas. Took 3 days to get part and then 2 days after driving out of shop it happened again. We took back and they changed some type of sensor and then happened again while driving home. They then kept for a week and changed out the gas tank and all has been great since then.

    Good Luck

I also have a 2007 kia spectra and every time I fill my car with gas it starts to shake and when I stop it stalls out. I took it to Kia the other day and of course it didn't do it when they drove it and they said they checked it and can't find a problem. It is doing it again today. It seems as long as I don't get it filled it is fine. I filled it once and took a 2 hour drive and when I got to my destination it was still on Full. Something may be wrong with my gas tank.

I too have experienced the same problem; after just buying a 2007 Spectra EX, I over-filled the tank and the car got the hiccups and stalled at stops. I read the info on this site and went for a long drive to burn some gas, and all is well now, thanx for helping me, I hope yours is running better.

2007 Kia Spectra EX with only 17K stalls out sometimes at a stop and misfires after refueling. I used gas treatment to remove water the first couple times and it seemed to help. This is now the third time and gas treatment does not seem to do anything.

My dad has 2007 kia spectra he has been not overfiling but putting an even $ amount in his car so no more than $.99 extra.  The last time he filled it, it stalled out on him 3 times on his way home.  He took it to the kia dealer and they said that because he overfills the tank it will now need to be replaced.  $1200 to replace the tank at the dealer because it is not an item that is under warranty.  My dad said that there is no warning in the manual or on the gas tank anywhere that says that overfilling will cause any damage.  He wants to persue this under that information, says that they should have the warning.  Does anyone have any experience using that angle with kia to get them to cover this problem?

I am having the same problem with my 2007 Kia Spectra. Filled up at a gas station in October and the car kept stalling out or choking down. Then, it cleared up. Next week I filled up and it would barely run. Bought fuel cleaner to get any water out of tank and that solved it until last week. I filled up and it was worse than ever.Took it to a Kia dealership and they said there were two air filters in there.Apparently, according to them, the car was probably assembled in California. The air filter is located on the underside of the cap. There was also an air filter laying in the bottom where you would think it went anyway. But they say no. It helped for a little while. Today, it died on me while it was still in park. Any suggestions? I was told this morning if it continued to bring it back to the dealership.

I have had my car since Aug 08. I have had it back to the dealership 3 times for the same problem. They said there was a fuel pump problem. They changed everything out from the canister to the fuel tank. I have had it back 3 weeks and it wouldn't hardly crank the last two mornings. I notice if i keep the tank around a half of tank of gas it does fine but if it gets 1/4 or less is when I have the problem and worse when I fill it up and I don't overfill the car either. I'm taking the car back to the dealership today. I can't continue with this problem. jl

Throttle Body cleaning, and check the spark plugs, these are supposed to be Korean/Asian cars, but yet we have found american "Champion" plugs. Have the spark plugs checked, and replaced if they are not NGK. Check those two spark plugs, and throttle body for any errors.

Have the throttle body and the idle speed control valve cleaned, they get full of gunk and cause this concern.

If you put your foot on the brake and your car stalls, that is a symptom of your brake booster going bad.

Stalling and Jerking

I would check the fuel pressure and replace the fuel filter if it hasn't been replaced for awhile. The last 2 fuel filters I changed, the gas coming out of it looked like black ink.

2000 kia sephia constant engine stalling!!!

try this procedure and let me know if it cures the problem.

Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

2005 Dodge Magnum w/out hemi stalling

I have a 2005 Magnum and was also having this problem. Stalled out a few times and continued to idle rough and feel like it was going to die when I would slow down. At times it would feel like I would get a hesitation and then a surge. Engine light would go on for a day or so, then go out for a few days. First time I took it in, the dealership told me that it was a broken seal (I don't know where), but they replaced it and it continued to happen. The second time I took it to a mom & pop shop, and they told me that it was the oxygen sensor/altimeter, replaced it (only a $35 part), and I haven't had a problem since. That was 6 months ago. Hope this helps...
