Question about 2001 BMW Z3
I have a 2001 BMW Z3 2.5i. The fuel gauge will sporadically not function and it points to empty.
(a) occasionally flip back on it's own to where the fuel level is, or
(b) if it doesn't flip back, usually after I park it and then go to use my car again, the gauge works fine (until it acts up again).
One thing that I coincidently noticed one day is that I happened to press on the tripmeter switch and it made the fuel gauge (which was poiting to empty) spring back to where it should have been.
Could it be that there is a loose connection?
How can I remove the cluster to get behinfd it and check it out?
What do I need to do once I hacve the cluster out?
Do not top off tank when fueling. Had this problem and realized that it occured when I topped up after the pump shut off. No problem since. Feel that when topping up, you overfill the tank and fuel gets in the vent line and charcoal filter which somehow affects the fuel gauge. I have a 99 Z3 coupe.
