If the fuel pump is new and the fuel filter then you will need to check the fuel pump relay if its good
then the ECM would need to be replaced. thats the computer.

My 2001 Volvo s60,cut off while driving, replaced battery, added 2 quarts of oil, because it was also low on oil, now it crank but won't stay cranked

Sounds like a fuel pump to me. Have your fuel pressure tested with a fuel pressure guage to eliminate a fuel delivery problem. If it cut off while driving, thats a likely culprit.

What can be the answer to a scanner that will not communicate with computer in 96 3.8 ford windstar?

The fuel pump ONLY stays on for a few seconds, while you
crank the motor.
If the computer sees no crank signal, the pump times out

That is your first problem to work on

When someone says they checked something-I say- no you didn't

Checking is not a look & touch thing,it is getting out wiring diagrams
& doing voltage tests, to confirm things work as they should

Problem number two-the fans stay on-resolve that next

No money-- I can't help much & a local repair shop shouldn't get
involved --if money is the main topic, when you go to a shop

I have owned a shop & the thing you do not need is-- how much will
it cost ,over & over several different ways

Until --you pay for diagnostic time--- to find a problem

THERE IS NO REPAIR COST $ NON You have no problem
to discuss UNTIL you find a problem

What you describing is a fuel pump not working & no fuel pressure

You pretty much know that --only tries to run when you spray it

I wouldn't waste my time doing that, even as a test, the pros do
I guess & then people come here when they can't fix much

The scanner issue-code reader or professional scan tool?

Are all the fusible links good, your working on an old vehicle
You need wiring diagrams & a game plan to follow

Volvo ignition / fuel problems

if its cranking but wont start then its possible its your fuel regulator, the fuel filter is clogged or the fuel pump is bad. check the pin on the right side of the injector rail, its got a little brass knob that unscrews, if you unscrew it and then try to start it and fuel comes out its not the pump or filter but maybe the regulator or at tis age like my volvo the injectors need replacing a simple OBD code reading will tell you.

My 1995 Volvo 850 will not start. I think it is the fuel pump. I tryed a procedure where I removed the fuel pump relay and jumpered the sockets for blades 85 and 15. there was no help in starting the car...

another way to test it
unplug any fuel line you can locate tell a friend to start key one turn only if the line squirts fuel then pump is working and it might need regulator
if not then pump is gone

I can't start my volvo after running out of gas

If you tried cranking it too much after running out of fuel you could have damaged the fuel pump. If that is not the case then maybe the filter is clogged. Once you added gas back to the tank it may have taken a few cranks to get fuel back in the lines but not too many. Since the fuel filter is a lot cheaper than a pump I would try to replace it first. You can find directions for doing so here. http://www.volvo-forums.com/t20996-fuel-filter-replacement-question.htm
Also a lot of other good advice on volvos.

How do you change a fuel pump regulator in a 2001 Volvo s40?

The fuel pressure regulator is located in the fuel rail, held in by a torx screw.

Release pressure from the system by cranking the car with the fuel pump fuse out, or byt depressing the relief valve on the end of the fuel rail.
Unbolt the regulator/housing assembly, unhook the vacuum hose, and remove the regulator/housing assembly.

Installation is reverse order.

If you need to replace the regulator that is located in the fuel pump, it is not serviceable. Luckily they rarely fail.

I have a 1991 740 volvo, was driving down he street and it died, after i pulled over it wouldn't start

Check if you still getting fuel and sparks, two items need to keep the car running. Check fuses and fuel pump relay, if needing new relays go to the junk yard and get couple of them for nothing. Checking making sure you getting fuel and fuel pump working properly, unplug the the main coil wire to distributor so the car wont start we just want the engine just to turn over. under the hood, locate fuel filter, disconnect the line to or from it, wrap the bottom of the hose with old clothe firmly and to remember to point the house downward away from your face so it wont splash at you. and have a friend turn ignition over just like starting, see if the fuel come out with good pressure. if fuses and relay check out, your crank sensor may be bad, being 91' strong possibility. crank sensor send info to computer telling to send fuel to your injectors. For sparks, make sure you plug the main wire to distributor back. pull one plug wire and get spare plug, plug it and ground the plug and have a friend turn the engine over and see if you getting sparks, do not touch the plug, big shock. No sparks, check the coil if you getting 12v, if yes, than your cam sensor is faulty. The cam sensor work just like the crank sensor but telling the computer to send sparks to the distributor. Common for older European cars, crank and cam sensor tend to become faulty after years of service due to age and heat abuse.

No start - good spark, no fuel

Hi hgudmund,
If you have fuel injection, (the diagnosis will be different than for carbs)....What I would suggest, as a first step, replace the fuel filter....

If there is still no improvement, this is how the pump should operate with fuel injection. the pump should start when the ignition is turned on and after a short burst, cut out, until the engine is cranked up, at which time the pump will run all the time ....

Checking the fuel delivery can be dangerous without the correct equipment for the injection system.....You'll need a fuel pressure test guage....The injection pressure should run at around three and a half bar, minimum....if it's lower than that, you'll need to replace the pump....

There are more tips that I can pass to you, but before I do please let me know how you get on with the first stages....and let me know if we are in fact dealing with injection or carburation?

best regards Johngee10
