I have 1997 cadillac deville the abs & traction control and service engine soon lights are on. Right now I am trying to figure out the problem with the abs & traction control lights. I have checked all of the fuses they were a little corroded so I cleaned those and then I pulled all the wheels off to check the speed sensors. One was disconnected so I plugged it in and still have the lights on. I have another parts car but I don't know what to do next. Please help???

I was a dealership tech for 30 years, I liked the hard jobs like electrical work, most tech's will leave work rather than fix these kinds of problems. U would not believe the things that ouitside shops did to peoples cars, many times $1000's of dollars in parts and same proble, so in the end the dealer is cheaper because they have all the tools and test gear to fix the car, we do have come backs but we stand behind our work 100% and if it isn't right we do it for free.

Abs light came on

Sometimes this light is a small illuminated picture of a car losing control. How this system works: Traction control uses wheel speed sensors to detect when one or more of the car's wheels lose grip and traction. When the system registers a loss of traction in one or more of the wheels, a computer will limit power to the wheels that are still in solid contact with the road to prevent a skid. Common reasons for this to happen:
  • ABS is malfunctioning: Traction control and ABS (anti-lock braking system) often share the same control module and internal self-diagnostics system. As a result, sometimes an issue in the ABS can trigger the traction control light. If this is the case, then both the ABS and Traction Control lights will be on.
  • Broken wheel speed sensors: Wheel speed sensors are usually in the wheel bearing assembly, and determine the rate at which each wheel is moving. The sensors relay that information to the traction control module, which determines whether or not power needs to be shifted. Wheel speed sensors can get dirty or damaged and stop working, which prohibits the traction control module from knowing when to enable the system.Traction control module is faulty: The traction control module - which, again, is often shared with the ABS - can malfunction and break altogether, causing the system to stop working. What to expect: A top-rated mobile mechanic will come to your home or office to determine the source and cause of the traction control issue, and will then provide a detailed inspection report that includes the scope and cost of the necessary repairs. How important is this service? It's important to have the traction control issue investigated as soon as possible, as adverse driving conditions can arise at any time. While your car is unlikely to incur further damage from a faulty traction control system, it won't be safe to drive in rain, snow, sleet, or other inclement weather, or even possibly through pools of water on the road. Furthermore, the issue that is causing the traction control light to illuminate could also be impacting the ABS.

What are the warning lights on my opel astra?

Take it somewhere and have it scanned for codes. It will save everyone a lot of guessing.

About a week ago, having switched on and set off, all the brake warning lights stayed on, that is the ABS, TCS, TCS OFF and Brake System Warning lights. The brakes continued to work OK with no extra travel...

abs=anti-lock brake system/ tcs=traction control system ==sounds like you have a problem with ur abs possible bad sensor or a wiring connection problem when abs shuts down [trouble light] your brakes will work normal but if u stomp or brake hard the brakes will lock up skid and the tcs doesnt affect brakes but if u accelerate hard tires will spin lose traction check the wiring and connections to the sensors sometimes debris hits the wire and loosens the connection if looks ok and light is on have car scanned for the trouble code most auto stores such as auto zone/advanced auto offer this service for free the code will what and where the problem is so repair can be made

Warning light on are trac off, anti-lock, brakes, service engine

You need to have the abs system scanned for codes. You likely have a bad wheel speed sensor on one of wheels.

The traction control and abs warning lights comes on.

Start the car for the first time, make sure the lights are doing it. Then push on the emergency brake a few times making sure it comes up all the way (if not help it out by hand). See if the lights stop. The ABS/Tracktion control is shut off when the E-brake is applied in Fords. I don't know if this is true in Chrysler's but is worth a check. If this has any effect on the lights then it's the pedal not coming all the way up or the switch in the E-brake mech coming loose or malfunctioning.
