Question about 1985 Dodge Ram 50

Starter the bolts for the front and rear have rattled loose and are missing. can you tell me what size i need to get to replace them?

I would check the local junkyards for any dodges around that year with the same motor and chances are they wont even charge you for them

My suburban kind of rattles/knocks in the rear end when driving over quick sudden bumps like a gravel road.

Rust and bushing wear are problems with the rear suspension components in these vehicles. You did not mention the year, but you probably have leaf springs back there. You need to check the shackle bolts and the leaf retaining rivets for loose or missing parts. If you have coil springs, check the lower spring bumpers - one or both my be badly worn or gone. And yes, any bushings may need replacing.
As far as the brakes are concerned, that is probably the noise you hear. You need to have the shoes replaced right away, and since they are that badly worn, the drums will need to be turned or probably replaced.

My 96 windstar sliding door rattles when I hit bumps.also I tab it through a carwash and it leaks water like a faucet. I checked the rollers and hinge bolts and nothing appeared to be loose or missing! Any...

I think the solution to your problem is to check the condition of the sealing rubbers as their use is to seal out water and load up the door slides to reduce the rattles.. The same as if the door rubbers around the drivers door are missing the door rattles against the lock plate.

Starter issue?

check starter mounting bolts either loose or missing one. if starter old probably starter drive pinion or fly wheel worn out.if starter new.but smaller size than old one you need to use shim on starter.

Replacing a starter in a sebring 2006

All of the nuts and bolts are metric on it. It helps to use a 13mm swivel socket on the starter bolts but you can use a wrench if you need to. Also, a 7/8 open end wrench for the 02 sensor, or an 02 sensor socket.

Let me give you the steps for the starter and also the front engine mount bracket. You don't have to remove the entire mount, just the bracket


  1. Open Hood.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Raise vehicle and support.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the 02 sensor.


  • Remove the 02 sensor from the exhaust manifold .
  • Remove the front mount through bolt.
  • Remove the front mount bracket from engine block.

    Remove the battery cable from starter.


    1. Remove the lower starter bolt and remove starter.


    1. Install starter to transmission.
    2. Start the upper starter bolt.
    3. Start the lower bolt and snug it so that the starter will not move.
    4. Remove the upper bolt.
    5. Connect the battery cable and torque nut to 8.5 Nm (75 in. lbs.).
    6. Install the front mount bracket and check heat shield location.
    7. Install bolt the upper bolt and torque bolt to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.)
    8. Install the lower and torque bolt to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.)
    9. Install the front mount through bolt and torque bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft.. lbs.)
    10. Install the 02 sensor and torque to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.)
    11. Lower vehicle.
    12. Connect the negative battery cable.



    1. Raise vehicle.


    1. Remove front mount to bracket horizontal through bolt (Fig. 87).
    2. Loosen the rear mount through bolt.
    3. Remove front mount vertical bolts (Fig. 87).
    4. Remove front mount and separate the starter heat shield.


    1. Position front mount on lower radiator crossmember.
    2. Loose install front mount to bracket through bolt.
    3. Install front mount vertical bolts. Tighten bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) . (Fig. 87).NOTE: Be sure the weight of the engine is static and in rest position. this for a 2.7 v6

    Needs a starter. How difficult is it?

    The starter is right behind,or above depending on the engine size of the front frame work!Around in the center ! From 1-- 10 about a 5 in difficult remove and replace. And about even with the top of the oil pan. Unhook the positive battery cable first ,then the cable and wiring from starter solenoid. there may be a plastic cover hideing the 2 bolts.Remover the cover,then loosen the starter upright
    bolts then remove the one short one on the rear bracket,of the starter,to the lower part of the engine block! Check flywheel for worn teeth,or flat spots, and converter bolts for tightness!

    Missing rear seat bolts

    I'm sure they are metric, but not sure on size. Could you unscrew one from one of the front seats and try it in the hole?

    When accelerating while turning I hear a rattling noise from the front end

    check strut and rack and pinion for proper tightness if good check the body panels/front valance for loose or missing bolts or any light assembly that may have come loose

    How do you get a crankshaft bolt pulley loose on 1995 mercury villager

    Either use an impact wrench, or put a wrench securely on the bolt, with the other end against the frame or a block of some sort, and touch the key. It will spin the crank and loosen the bolt.

    Can't remove starter

    well look at your replacement starter how many bolts hold it in? and is a brace/bracket attached I can't see your problem but i would start with what i recommended hope this helps,John
