Batt probly not chargn cause main wire in back of alt is wornout. Alternator tho sounds bad..it will drain a battery quik.Disconnect batt ovenite to confirm
sounds like a charging system problem. Either the battery is receiving too much voltage and cooking the cells or it is not being charged enough to keep it alive. GM charging systems after the 1980's are known to be less reliable than the older charging systems. With all the GM vehicles I have owned, I ended up replacing the alternator and the battery within a few months of each other. They tend to take each other out, and they are both about the same price.
Before blindly changing parts, always try to verify the cause of the problem. With this car, I would stick a voltmeter on the dash somewhere for a few days with double sided tape to monitor the battery voltage coming from the cigarette lighter socket. The voltage while the car is not running should be around 12.5 volts or better. While running, the voltage should be around 14 volts, plus or minus a bit, and pretty much stay where it is whether the lights and blower motor are running or not.
-Sounds like the alternator no produce enough power.
-Start the car and let it runs for 10 minutes to temperature then check voltage at battery. You should get 14.5 volt or +/-. It less then
13 volts. the problem is the alternator. Replace it or rebuild.
as part of the solution i first must ask, is the check engine light on? if not, it may just be time for general maintenance (spark plugs, wires, throttle body cleaning, injector system cleaning). second, while running and running in idle, is the idle varying (continually reving up and down), rough, low or none of the above? answer back and i can help out a little more.
