Have someone do a compression check for you ,, this will tell you if you have serious problems such as a bad head gasket ,, Look for obvious signs of a coolant leak,, does your exhaust smell like coolant? also check the fan relay, it may be worn or faulty causing it to stop too early in the cooling process, when you first start the motor, with the engine cool remove the radiator cap and keep looking inside the radiator , once it warms up,, ( this may take a while) do you see coolant movement ? you should which would mean the thermostat is working , Opening and closing , if not you may need to change that ,, which would mean the car is losing coolant through the over flow
