Speedo not working at sll no movement even on rrdet

Hey Chris,

No make, model, year... engine, transmission or other clues as to veicular configurations came through with your comment/question...

Assuming you know the history of this (UNIDENTIFIED) vehicle...
herein after called "car"... and no RECENT hands have been working up inside the dash...

"Modern" Speedometers have sending units
(generally located where those speedo-cables USED to be... on the output (tail) shaft of the transmission.

Everything from serious road hazards, old-folks' walkers to plastic bags at HIGHWAY SPEEDS can disconnect those impulse wires...
rendering your speedometer an isolated (useless) space-taker in the midst of your gauges...

Beg, borrow or buy a "spare" sender & put it in place of your existing unit... to see if that changes things...

Input your car's info on BBB INDUSTRIES (registration required) and see if they have your SCHEMATIC DRAWINGS to locate any SPECIFIC fuses you could try first.

Hope this helps.

Speedometer quit working after transmission work and trans won't **** on 1999 Chevy silverado 4x4 5.3l

Most transmissions have a plastic gear mounted on the uotput shaft that connects to a gear on the end of the speedo cable or electronic sender unit for the speedo. This gear is normally driven by a steel ball embedded in the shaft and the gear has a slot that makes the ball act as a drive key. I would check by removing the sender unit/cable and seing if the gear can be rotated around the shaft. If it can be moved take the unit back to the reconditioners and ask for a warranty repair as the ball/ key has probably fallen out during assembly

Speedometer not working

hmm must be a dodge pickup...(the abs module causing speedo issues on dodge trucks is pretty common) the only other aspect i can think of at the moment is i think some models work in conjunction with a sender in the transmission or transfer case. or theres a bad ground or issue with the wiring

1994 standard transmission Toyota pickup truck speedometer, and odometer stopped working. How do I fix it.

There is a cable that runs from the back of the transmission to back of dash.Undo cable at trans end.Spin the inner wire with cordless drill, speedo should move,if not replace speedo cable. Some cables u can pull inside wire from trans end,so don't have to mess with dash

I cannot read if there is any fuel in the tank, how do i repair and also can you quote me how much would anyone typically pay to fix this problem. also my speedometer does not work either but all the lights...

There are a few issues the gage not working could be, a bad fuel sender, a bad gage or a sort in the wires.

The speedometer is most likely a bad cable at 1 end or the other or the gear at the transmission. Or the speedo cluster itself is stripped.

81 corvette speedometer and odometer quit working

unhook speedometer cable from transmission and spin cable by hand it should turn smoothly if it des hook end to a low sped drill and see if it holds at a steady speed if it does the the problem is in the plastic speedo gear in the trans if it dos not remove the dash and inspect the connection on the speedo head

Speedometer don,t work

Depending on whether your speedo is mechanical (uses a cable), or electronic (uses an electrical wire to carry the signal from the sender), I would look it (what's in between the speedo and trans speed sender) before replacing the instrument panel. A good service manual that includes a dash wiring diagram should help trouble shoot this problem.
Good luck.

Speedometer not working

Check the gear very carefully that goes on the end at the transmission. It is plastic, and retained with a metal spring clip. The plastic can become "applecored" where as it doesnt make contact with the drive teeth on the transmission output shaft. If the gear is in order, the speedo cable operates correctly, and checks out ok,then it is likely a bad speedo head in the dash.Later model Ford trucks all used a PSOM (programmable, speedomoeter, odometer module) that was known to be somewhat problematic, but i think your year Ford is too early to have a PSOM.
