96 saturn sc transmission problem

I have a 96 sc saturn it has a automatic trans the car is on its 3rd trans it all starts the same i get a couple of jerks and it seems like the trans is shifting between first and second gear then the check engine light comes on. i installed this transmission about a year and 3 months ago and here i am in the same position i have checked all the sencors that i thought could be the problem. i have a auto x-ray 2000 and i have got the same codes as the last trans. P0732 gear 2 ratioincorrect, P0741 torque converter clutch circut preformance or stuck off i also get a pending code of P0782 2-3 shift malfunction. i have not got a P0782 code yet with this tranny. but im sure i will soon. im not sure but i think it might have something to do with the valve body anything would be helpfull thanks. just incase it will help the vin # is 1G8ZK5270TZ136311 once agian thanks, Derek

It seems that there is a on going problem with the solinoid valves or the valve body as you may have suspected. also if the fan clutch doesnt come on it causes the torque converter to over-heat i think this causes vapor to push out the fluid from the converter. all of this i cant conferm but A.T.R.A. is my source they are a killer network that does nation wide warrenty work GOODLUCK!!

Are you sure you are getting the right trans? There are 2 different based on sohc or dohc. The rpo codes are mp6 or mp7. The gear ratios are different and will set these codes.

I just found out that the saturns have multiple transmissions. I am having the same problem. Apparently saturn trannys have different gear ratios. If you have a dohc you need a tranny from a dohc. If you have a ohc you need to use that tranny. Mine is a single overhead cam and I put tranny from a dual ohc in and now it will go to second gear but that is it. So now I gett ogo to the junkyard and get a tanny from a single ohc. Hope this sheds some light on your problem.

My 96 Saturn Sl1 slips from 5th gear to 3rd. Does this mean transmission is out? After adding transaxcle fluid my car doesnt want to move.

Did you check the fluid level while the car was running? You really don't want to over fill the trans with ATF.

My 96 Saturn Sl1 slips from 5th gear into 3rd. Doea this automatically mean the trasmission is out?

If caught soon enough it may indicate only a relative inexpensive service but that is just a guess. I would not delay getting it checked it will cost you dearly if you do.

might be a help if you told us whether you are talking about the hydraulics which operate the brakes or the clutch, or those inside an automatic transmission.

I have a 96 saturn that i replaced the tranny in with a 95 tranny. when i drive it it will go through the gears. when it goes to shift into 3rd it downshifts. what is causing that to happen

You have to make sure that you are using the correct transmission. If you have a SOHC then you need the SOHC transmission. A DOHC transmission will bolt up but it has the wrong gear ratios for your SOHC and its computer. You will get all kinds of funky shifting if you use a SOHC car with a DOHC transmission or vise versa. Check the stamping on the bell housing of the transmission you put in and see if it has an MP7 or MP6. MP6 trannys are the SOHC transmission, the MP7 is the DOHC transmission.

2001 saturn sc1 grinds when going into third gear

sounds like you got a bad shift syncro for 3rd gear, its inside the trans, cuse ive never adjust shift cables on a s-series now matter what was done to the trans, and that cable controls more than just 3rd gear so its gotta be the syncro,,sorry,,,cheaper to get a used trans than to fix

Lost of shift on transmission (automatic)

Check the trans fluid level, have scanned for trouble codes. The valve bodies on those transmissions are prone to wearing out.
