Had a new tranny and torque converter put in my 2001 Dodge Cummins 2500 now won't go into gear, the linkage is good.

remove the inspection cover under the torque converter and check for failed flexi-plate drive. The plate that the torque converter is connected to that is attached to the crank shaft. Check the torque converter control (TCC) clutch solenoid/servo for failure.

2001 dodge ram 2500 - p1740 I've found out that

refers to the torque converter clutch servo/solenoid
it is not a faulty transmission but a simple replacement part or wire harness connection problem
if you leave it the end result will be no gear selection as nothing will happen in drive or reverse

Depends what the rattling is really... If it's the engine , could need a valve adjustment... I've also heard of torque converters make a rattle when going bad, but only when in drive or reverse

My 2006 2500 dodge ram is having shift problems in 2nd gear only. The truck has a Cummins and an auto tranny. It holds in first too long, then when it shifts to 2nd, sometimes it goes back to first then...

I had the same problem, after 26k miles and replacing the computer, and many other parts on the truck transmission they replaced the tranny....same problem. In short, and another tranny they found small alum shavings in the tranny cooling system...they then replaced all lines, coolent and tranny radiator (cooler )with another new tranny....problem solved. It was the tiny metal shavings in the tranny cooling system that continued to circulate the system.

1996 Dodge ram 2500 4x4 5.9 cummins Shifts in and out of overdrive in cold weather at lower speeds.

This mainly is caused by transmission fluid level changes. Measure it when its at running temperature and in park. Add if necessary (most likely the cause)

Water pump replacement procedure 2005 2500 dodge with cummins diesel

take off old water pump. clean up area on the motor real this by using a scrapper and cleaning slolvent. when thats all done put hi temp silicon on the block water pump and the put gasket on silicon. let dry for like five minutes. put in on torque bolts to specs.
