Question about 2004 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

Stereo Good morning, Several week's ago I had to jump start my car due to a flat battery and as a result my car stereo is asking for a SEC code. I have been told that this could be the last three numbers of my VIN number but have no idea how to enter it though I know there is a special procedure. I have looked in my manual but can find nothing. Are you able to assist? Thank you Kim

The VIN numbers have nothing to do with the unlock codes for the radio.

Please advise of the 5 digit number on the face of the radio. I have most of the SEC codes.

Go to the dealer or car audio place geeks. It's relatively simple and won't cost hundreds

Why wont my radio woek after being jump started

I'm assuming that your vehicle was jump started due to it's battery being depleted. In such a case it is normal for any stereos with start codes to require a four digit PIN to be punched in before operation can commence. In the case that your stereo doesn't require a PIN and doesn't ask for one, then it is possible that your stereo's fuse may be blown or in fact that your stereo is faulty and may be the reason for your power drain.
It will help if you can provide more specifics such as whether or not your stereo shows any illumination lights or screen prompts etc. Perhaps it's on the radio setting, but all you're hearing is static. Please provide more info if possible.

CAr stereo not working after battery jump

Doubtful, my guess would be fried. Does the unit get power?

Check the fuses, especially the one for car stereo. If that's not blown you'll need to put the head unit and check the fuse either on the 12V power wire or on the wiring harness or on the back of the actual unit.

I've seen that same thing done several times and usually the damage is more drastic, consider yourself lucky.

aftermarket stereo? dome lights? car alarm? Use a multimeter and see what fuse has power draw when car is off.

If you haven't had an alternator / charging warning light on, i would suggest it's the battery, or dirty connections.

Ticking noise when trying to start car

Hi

Sounds like a flat battery !

Get a jump start, with a good heavy duty set of jump leads.

Then have your battery tested.

Good Luck !

A FixYa rating would be appreciated thanks. !

Factory Stereo Drains Battery

I have had this problem with a few of my cars and I thought the same that my battery was gettin drained by the stereo but really my battery was going bad hich resulted in the radio staying on for some odd reason, but i replaced the battery and all is good with no more problems, so I would take my battery down and have it tested.

Stereo reads "SEC" and would not function if turned on.

you need a code to get it too work. if the person you got the car from can't give it to you, you'll have to get it from a dealer.
