Question about 1987 Ford Bronco II

87 ford bronco II idling and power problem

My bronco II has a 2.9 liter engine. On the first start of the day it wont idle and you have to give it gas as you would a car without a choke. I have replaced every sensor on it, except the O2 sensor. Once the engine starts to warm up it idles on its own but surges up and down till it warms up more and then the surging stops. It doesn't have any power to accelerate above 45. I bought a scan tool, but I can't find the single wire plug in to hook it up, only the large one. I have replaced the plugs, wires, distributer cap and rotor on it also. The air filter was replaced a few weeks ago.

Check the i.a.c. (idle air control) valve near the throttle body, it fixed my low idle!

It could have a weak or failing ignition coil. The other thing I can think to look for would be an exhaust restriction.. (clogged catalytic converter)

Try replacing the Throttle Positioning Sensor
Have the codes checked
You may need to clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor
this is best done by a professional as it contains some very sensitive wires and they are easily broken
The MAF is very expensive to replace

What is the firing order for a 1984 ford bronco 2

1-4-2-5-3-6
Now you need to know which cylinder is which. If you stand at the front of the truck looking at the engine, the number 1 cylinder is on the left closest to you. The left bank has cylinders 1-3-5 and the right bank has 2-4-6. So number 1 is at the left front and number 6 is at the right rear.

Will not run at an idle

Try this, it is the common reason for this problem.
Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake
