Engine Starts but No Gauges or Radio

2002 Chevy Cavalier, 4cyl manual.

The engine almost always starts fine, but lately it seems as if the car does not recognize that the engine has started and therefore turns the gauges and radio off (it seems all accessory power is shut off, but the engine is still running). Sometimes the power stays on when I pump the gas while starting the car, but it seems to be getting worse. Any ideas? Fuel system problem?

I was at work when writing the first note, so I figure I should clarify a bit more just to try to pinpoint the problem a little better.

My gauges, radio, wipers, etc. all work when the key is turned to ACC(I know there's no actual accessory power wire in the car though), but sometimes when it starts, these devices shut off. The only way I have remedied this is by a combination of giving the car extra gas when starting, and keeping the key turned longer.

I have heard that the injectors in Cavaliers go bad, and know the car probably needs a fuel system cleaning and a fuel filter. But, the car runs fine when it is started.

It sounds to me like the ignition switch is bad also, but if anyone else has different thoughts please let me know.

has the thermostat been changed lately? did the fluid leakage start about that time? check the thermostat housing and the heater hoses. i would also check that the correct gasket was used on the water pump. it is not unheard of to get the wrong gasket with the water pump. they may look right but a small difference can make all the difference. is it the correct water pump? are all the bolts on the water pump tightened properly?

The car starts fine but the key does not return to the "On" position after the engine starts.

I would say the switch and not the lock cylinder. The switch should have a spring to return the lock back to on.

1994 chevy cvalier 3.1 engine...lately it's been shutting off when i come to stop. the oil pressure fluctuates and then shuts off. it always starts back up. any suggestions?

if this unit has an over drive tork converter the tork converter or the TC valve (solenoid) might be faulty, have you tried keeping your foot on the gas a bit to keep it running ? and what happens ? also some engines have a low oil pressure warning and engine cut out , did you check your oil ???

Start the car. remove the cluster fuse from the fuse panel to the left of the dash. Wait 5 seconds and reinsert the fuse. It should be fine until you replace the battery again.

Had no spark. Replaced ignition mod, 2 coil packs, and computer. I now have fire; problem is engine will not run, the fuel injector sprays fuel (too much i think). When i unplug the injector the engine...

Check for any wiring pinch which might have occurred when the injector was replaced. The injector is driven directly by the computer, so it seems to point at the new computer as being faulty. (pulse signal is always 'on')
