The starter is bad, locate the starter, it should look like 2 cylinders one lying on top of the other hit the smaller one of the two with a hard object like a hammer or a metal rod. be careful not to hit the back of the cylinders were the cables are loacted only the side round part of the cylinder. this will get the solinoid un stuck and it should start. you miht need to wack the soliniod a couple of time to get it unstuck it the solinoid is just plain dead you will need to repalce the entire starter. before you buy a new starter have them autozone or a autopart store test the original starter you will have to remove the starter in order to have them test it. do this after you have determined the battery is bad. pull the battery out and have an auto parts store test it. they usually do this test for free.

I suspect both the alternator and battery are bad because the alternator should keep the car running after the jump start and the battery is not starting the battery in the first place.

If the starter was bad then a jump start would not start the car at all. A bad starter will not turn the flywheel weather from the cars battery or a jump start. The clicking is from the dead battery.
Tony
Even if they wanted to test the starter, which is not the problem, you would not want to hit the solenoid part of the starter. One could give the actual starter a couple of wraps to try and knock the bendix loose but this only works in certain situations and less often than not.
Thank you for the rating. Always appreciated.
