1996 Buick Century Logo
Posted on Aug 25, 2011

Just recently bought a 1996 Buick Century w/3100. OBDll said it had a P0341 and P0300 I then proceeded to drive the car home, it ran badly, No power, shifting was late, and then it stalled a few times at lights, The idle was erratic at the lights as well. I stopped and shut the car off for about an hour. Then I got back in the car to finish the trip home (about 7 miles before I gave it a break, and another 13 to home), however, about 6 miles to go, the car stalled, and would not start back up. I then got it home, via tow. I've replaced the cam sensor which was one of the codes thrown. Now, it won't start, if I depress the gas pedal to the floor, she'll try to start, but to no avail. I've put plugs in, checked the fuel pressure, and checked for spark. All seems to be within parameters. Reading Forums online gives me ideas, but Very widespread and costly. They don't really boil down to one or two possible problems, more like 25 - 30 problems. Short of taking it to the repair shop for them to do EVERYTHING they can, what could I do? Any help or knowledge would be very much appreciated. Thank you, Sincerely, Flabbergasted Chris

Replacing parts wasn't the way to go

I think your off to the repair shop

The random misfire code & cam sensor code,
was the key

You should be figuring out why they came up

I would suspect a bad timing chain or one of the
25 items you mentioned

I bought a 1997 Buick Century w/7,000 miles on it from my neighbor. Sat for 20 yrs. Needs a few things my friend has a 1995 buick lesabre are the parts compatable?

This is dependant entirely on the parts you are looking to take off the Lesabre. However, I think it's a No, the two vehicles are not compatable.

I have a 2000 Buick century engine is 3100, my car has 2 cam shaft sensors how can I find out which one is bad

Pull the OBDII codes. A P0341 (for example) would indicate that the sensor A circuit is faulty.

If you dont have a code reader, just take your car to one of tbe better auto parts stores in your area. They will read the codes for you a d sell you the correct sensor. (BTW, I always recommed going OEM, even though it costs more. Theres a lot of Chineese junk on the market that may fail after a few months. Better safe than sorry.)

1996 Buick Century 3100/SFI V6 need location of purge vavle

Under hood with green cap on it

Don't change parts based on some code

Codes have nothing to do with parts

They are used to diagnose a system &
component test

No testing & no failed parts found, you learn nothing,
fix nothing,common sense

Why throw new parts at good one?

Sorry to tell you buddy. Your engine you Buick Century beat the Willy the Road Runner to the border for a taco. In other words, you destroyed the engine in your car. It not worth repairing unless you fine another engine and you and your friends due the installation. GB you Sir...stewbison

Camshaft position sensor circuit range, problems code P0341

I have usually found the camshaft position sensors to go bad. sometimes the connector can go bad as well. I would install a new sensor and unplug battery for 2 minutes and restart car and see if light stays off.

1996 buick century 3100 motor engine light on

Was it a code for a small or large Evap leak? The first thing i check when ever i get a car in with an evap code is to make sure the gas cap is in place and closed tight. Then i take the cap off and give it a good visual inspection. Look for cracks in the plastic or deterioration of the gasket. Replace with an OEM part if you find a problem. Otherwise clear the code and see if it returns. If it returns it can get a bit tricky as there are many parts to the evap system and the codes aren't very specific. The use of a smoke machine which pumps pressurized smoke into the evap lines is extremely useful but obviously the average DIY'er won't likely have access to one.
