Question about 2002 Audi A4
Can only get 1 radio station. Sometimes non at all. Were is the aerial in the a4 What would be wrong?
I managed to find something in the back of the car above the back seats. I removed the panel above the back window and there is a 3" x 8" black part that is attatched to three wires which presumably run up to the radio and maybe a ground wire. It attaches to the antenna that runs through the back window with metal leads. It is easy to remove both the panel and the part.
I fiddled with it a while and the radio reception goes in and out. It has a circuit board underneath and chips/resistors, etc. Maybe this is one of the "boosters". The replacement part from the dealer is $250 which is ridiculous. It is also a poor design to place this part directly under the black part of the back window which probably gets incredibly hot in the summertime. My guess is the heat fries these parts up good. My guess is the Germans don't have 100 degree heat.
I bit the bullet and ordered this part to see if it solves the problem. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

The arial is internal, it is a wire, I think it is running on top of the driver door, not sure.
Check the aerial connection at the back of the unit. Also check the wiring to the antenna, look for an intermittent connection.
On many A4 there is also an antenna amplifier, if that is wrong it can also give you troubles.
If you do not find anything wrong then the problem is on internal wiring connecting to the antenna socket, if that is the case the radio must be taken apart and tested by a technician.
