Re: vw passat central locking 1998
Hi make sure your connections are connected properly firstly as proberly whats happened is when you have been connecting the wires you shorted the live feed and not noticed as if you were to diconnect the wires of that door soliniod that is the only door that wouldn,t work so if they are all not working it must be something that controls the whole system rather than the one part , so look at the fuses firstly as if they worked before you startedthe job this is more likley to be the case yates210456

Most likely a defective central locking solenoid inside the door. Before stripping down door, look at the rubber trunking between the pillar and the door frame, that carries the wiring into the door. Peel back the rubber and look for broken wires or corrosion on plug.
Fixed it! Four broken wires which had corroded through because of water getting in. Reconnected with suitable wires = all works again! The wires are near the control unit under the LH floor. You will see tell-tale blue corrosion from copper wires seaping through the insulation tape.
under passenger side front mat is the ecu for all the doors and windows look there u will probably find a broken wire(common fault) if not remove panel on door and check electrical supply to it if all ok regulator has packed up....
i had the same problem and i fixed it yesterday. you will have to strip the door down and remove the central locking unit. expect about a 3-4 hour job (at least). check this site out taligentx.com: Passat - Door Lock Mechanism Repair. its **** hot. mine had rotted inside, i tried to resolder it but it was to corroded i ended up soldering wires to the circuit board and splicing the into the loom on the door.(bit of a botch but it works great) you can get a second hand unit if you cant fix it for about £50/£60 or pay a garage about £300 to do it. believe me it was worth about 4hrs and gettin peed off to save the money. hope this helps. emptyed : )
i had a similar problem on the front doors .after taking it to a garage for a quote £ 180 i read into it and there are micro swithches in the locks so with a gentle tap with the hand the door unlocks . hope this helps it saved me the money
