It takes about 6 hours plus around $250 in parts, labor rates vary greatly from state to state, here in my state they are about $120 per hour, so based on my state the job would cost about $900

Clutch

Hi
I own a 1992 2.0 sw20 tbar it pretty common for mk2's to eat clutches Id get your local garage to collect the car and check it out for you as it could be just a worn clutch plate or the springs have gone weak/broken on the fly wheel part of the clutch, worst case senario is that its the gearbox or the differential thats gone (not good lots of dosh) you simply wont know until its been checked out.

P.S there is no adjustment that you can make to the clutch really once its worn thats it im affraid till its replaced.

How much should I expect to pay at a repair shop to replace the clutch in my 1988 Toyota Camry (5spd standard transmission)??

labor charges for clutch repair vary from shop to shop --- your best bet would be to find a shop that deals with late model Toyotas on a regular basis. time wise should be 4 to 6 hours and the cost should be anywhere from $450 to $750 in labor and parts. ( not a hard clutch to replace ).

Clutch is noisy, when i depress the clutch the noise goes away

this noise is caused by a noisy clutch throw-out/release bearing, that is the part that presses against the pressure plate and disengages the clutch disk, the transmission must be removed to replace this part, so it is best to replace the clutch assembly at the same time, the labor for both is the same, about 5 hours

Its really, really hard to shift into gear if at all

nothing wrong that an accredited mechanic can't fix
the clutch was installed incorrectly by the " mechanic" and the jib will have to be done again
suggest that you find an accredited qualified mechanic to do the job

MR2 after 2 mins of starting the smt light comes on.

it sounds like the clutch actuator is worn out.
The clutch actuator has 2 parts:
1. the clutch master cylinder
2. the clutch slave cylinder.

Try to replace the slave cylinder first, and if it is still not solving the problem, then try to replace the clutch master cylinder

Good Luck

Clutch when out

Labor time about 6hrs, labor rates vary greatly, here that would be $700, parts another $200-300 depending on how much the shop adds on to the parts cost, best thing to do here is buy the parts yourself, you can get them at a very reasonable cost from an internet site called www.rockauto.com, name brands at a 30%-40% discount off local prices, have used them many times over the last 10 years, they are very fast on shipping.
