After jump-starting my engine (e39), my dash monitor only shows a dimly lit glow. No gps, engine stats, mileage, etc. I've checked the fuses but don't know how to check relays or overload devices. What did I fry? and how do I repair it?

Hi bahamasnys,
I think that there's a pretty good chance that the illumination bulb, which lights the display face has blown....To check that, you'll have to remove the unit from the center consul.....If you need help in doing that, let me know?

  • Hi Bahamasnys,

I tried to reply to your question yesterday, but I lost my web connection just as I was completing....

Hopefully you'll get the answers this time

I didn't realize that you had only recently bought the vehicle....Taking that into consideration, did you know, that under the rear seat, there are more fuses?....I am more familiar with the earlier models of your vehicle, but I'm pretty sure, that the basic wiring has remained with the same layout.....

On the earlier models, the onboard monitor is controlled by a management system, which is also under the same seat..... Just check those fuses before stripping down the center consul and make sure that all the connections are secure, into the units which you'll see there....

I think that the fuse for the power rear window shade, will be under the bonnet (hood) of your vehicle. They will be with the main fuses box, and there may be two....

If the operation of the two units still fails to work, have the vehicle scanned and the faults should show up on the read out....

As for the spare keys, those you'll have to order from a BMW agent and have them encoded by the agent.....

Hope that this info is helpful.....Enjoy the ride....

    Regards Johngee10

  • Hi Lorenzo,

Unfurtunately I don't have an idea where you can get a workshop manual for your vehicle, maybe from the net?....but I'm sure that any questions that you need answered....ask them and if I can, I'll give you the answer....Thats a promise.....

    Best regards Johngee10

The brake lights work but the turn signals don't!! Have checked the fuses and bulbs, but not finding the problem

Fuses and bulbs OK, but wires? Additionally I suggest keep in mind that turn signals work with FLASHER devices (two independent) on 1993 Buick Skylark..

Application: Turn signal
Flasher is located: Front seating area, driver side, under dash, driver side of steering column, mounted on support bracket

Application: Hazard flasher
Flasher is located: Front seating area, driver side, under dash, above kick panel, mounted in top of convenience panel

Hope this helps (remember to rate and comment this answer).

My turn signals are NOT working, but emergency flashers are. Any ideas? They just went out today-- wondering if it's 1/ fuse 2/ turn signal relay or...?

Check for the FLASHER. For 1991 Toyota Truck Pickup 4WD (4 cyl) 2.4L FI 4cyl the Flasher is located front seating area, driver side, under dash, mounted driver side of steering column.

Hope this helps.

I have a 1996 chevy s-10pick-up truck my blinkers are not working 4-way flashers are ok,fuses are ok,light bulbs are ok.where is the relays or flasher?

Flashers are generally located either under the dash (they hide them behind the horizontal panel) under the hood in the fuse box.

Also, relays can be hidden under the hood or in the fuse box.

The interior fuse box is where the 'turn signal' fuse is located.

1994 grand Am Dash & Rear Lights

Check all the fuses, if they're ok then check the switch or wiring, it might be that the wire running from the switch to the park / dash lights is fried. Does the front park lights work? (turn switch to first click, not second one. This is park lights, second click is full on headlights) Your park and dash lights are probably all connected to a single wire from the switch via the fuse box.

No power to stereo after front speakers (under dash) got wet

Pull the radio and check power lead. you may have a problem there or, if water got into radio the board may be shorting out. Some radios have a fuse in the wire and one inside the radio itself. Make sure that ground is still good as well, you can bet if water got there once, it has come in to a lesser degree, and went unnoticed many times before.

Dash lights and taillights out fuses all ok

In battery junction box or the under hood fuse panel check fuse no 11(15amp),it will be at the center of the fuse box where there is 4 fuse slots but looks like only 3 fuses, if this fuse in good then you will see a relay that is shaped kinda like a cross. This is the parklamp relay which also powers the dash lights.
