I think this sensor causes the steering wheel to **** and slip while turning. I'm trying to find out how to replace it, too. Also, is there a factory recall? If not, how much does the sensor cost? My truck is immaculate with 154K miles. 5.0 Vortec engine.

Engine does not want to accelerate when you give it gas,you have to ease the gas pedal down and it will slowly pick up speed.

Where is the crankshaft sensor located on a 1998 chevrolet silverado 5.7 L

The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) is located at the lower front of the engine on the engine front cover, also called the timing cover. Through a use of magnetic pulsation, the CKP sensor provides the PCM (control module) with a crankshaft position signal. The PCM uses that signal to determine the spark sequence (firing order) for each cylinder. It also uses the signal to precisely control ignition timing and calculate engine speed, etc. Easy fix and clean the area out first with brake cleaner before working around that area and take care not to break the tab on the wire harness that connects to the crank sensor. Good luck

Speed sensitive steering

there is a sensor at the bottom of the steering wheel, this senses the speed of the vehicle which in turns allows the steering to be easy at idle and firmer at higher speeds. sometime this sensor will go "open" at higher speeds which will cause the steering wheel to feel like it "drops" at times.
