1994 pajero 2.8 auto. Gearbox wont stay in overdrive top gear, as i reach aprox 40mph box goes into top gear then straight back to down a gear,it does this up and down 3 or 4 times whilst still accelerating untill i reach aprox 65mph when it will stay in top ocasionally dropping down a gear for 5 to 10 seconds even on flat level roads. I have cleaned the filter in the box sump and changed the fluid and set the level. Any help would be apreciated. Andy

Also could be the gearbox selector which keeps it in gear. it could be a cable over tighten . it could be possible the transfer box is playing up. these are just ideals

2000 ford expedition will not change gears after reaching 40mph then car goes into neutral. Then if i put the car into overdrive it runs fine.

The infamous Exploder transmission. Try a tranny flush and new gasket. More likely it needs a new transmission.

I have a Pajero Junior but haven't seen before the 3 gear cars... Asked the dealer if that was faulty and they said the automatic ones have 3 speeds only... Is this true??? I think it's just faulty

Pajero Jnr auto has a three speed box. Like me, I imagine that you think it revs too high in top gear. I believe there is an overdrive available, but I am still looking. Mine revs at about 4000 at 60mph.

We have an auto toyota camry lumiere G. the gears wont always engage. sometimes the reverse wont work either. we notice that when the car is running in neutral the oil level for the gearbox doesnt go down....

Well it sounds like you have a bad problem but we will try and find out why.
First the gear box pump is driven by the engine and that is the flywheel as the torque convertor which is bolted to it is the gearbox pump and 5 out of 10 that is the problem but also theselector on the side of the box could also be loose and needs tighten and adjusting as the pump supplys the pressure to the drive bands both forward and reverse but the oil level dosent have to move as if the bands are good then the most iol they will use is about 1/2 ltr max .So you might find that you need a change over convertor or a new filter in the Gear Box. either way its a Auto Matic Shop job ..

What is the meaning of L, H, D on the automatic gearbox of Toyota Rav4 1994 - 2000

Those designate the three different speeds on the auto transmission. If you select D, it automatically shifts thru all gears as conditions require. If you select L, it will stay in Low gear, or first, and if you select H, it will shift thru all gears except the overdrive gear.

Auto gearbox overdrive wont engage oil level ok fiddled with wires on box n thermostat it worked but has stopped again thanks jon

My 94 wouldn't hold it's gears and would drop down and over rev. My problem was the oil. It should be Dexron 2 and some body had put the wrong oil in. It was drained refilled run for a while and drained again, then used for about 2 weeks. Drained it again etc and it's been fine ever since.
Hope this works for you, good luck.

98 Ford Explorer wont move in reverse or overdrive

Probably low oil pressure in the transmission or worn clutches.

Shifting problems

never seen a dodge and autos a bit thin on the ground here in spain but i think the control you are looking for is on the side of the gearbox ,and if its like VW then its not cheap ,i repaired one by removing the offending item and drilling the rivits out then cleaning with acetone the paths on one side and rubbing a soft lead pencil on the brushes refitting a couple of nuts and bolts with instant gasket in the join and this car is still driving around a year later.
