Question about 2003 Pontiac Sunfire

1 Answer

Sunfire Stalling I was driving my sunfire home the other day and stopped off at the store. When I was done and pulled out of my parking space --it stalled. It started right back up but as soon as I took my foot off the brake--it would stall again. It took me 30 minutes to get out of the lot. And continued stalling all the way home. Evrytime I came to a light /stop sign I threw it in nutral so I wouldn't come to a complete stop. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Sounds like a mass air flow problem. It's located somewhere between the air filter and intake, but usually right after the air filter box.
Check to see that the big rubber hose there isn't cracked or ripped, check to see if the mass air flow wires aren't frayed or broken or disconnected.
Start with that, and ur check engine light must be on as well.

How to replace a broken stud on 99 pontiac sunfire

hub studs are just a press in fit . the replacement can usually be done with out the hub removal. remove the drum /disc rotor
using a hammer and punch drive the broken stud out. place new stud in position and pull in to place using nut and spacers to get it home .
if you can remove the hub and drive the broken stud out . fit new stud and place the hub over something like a piece of pipe /socket the new stud in the pipe or socket) that is on something solid and hammer the new stud home.

Stalling throughout driving speeds or dies when comming to a stop

some cars have this problem when the intake manifold is loose or drawing air or the roteror cap may be defect, to check your manifold ,with a cold running moter spray a bit of starter spray (with eather) along the intake manifold , if it's leaking the moter will increase in rpm.

Sure sounds like the engine has a failed bearing, most likely a rod bearing, the engine will need to be pulled out and repaired or replaced depending on how much damage you have done driving it.
